Welcome to the eighth day of the May 30 days writing challenge. If you don't know what this challenge is about, please have a look at the introductory post. Also, at the end of each article I will post the links to all the posts in the challenge (if you're joining the challenge, I encourage you to do the same). Also, if you join, don't forget to tag your post with #challenge30days and also leave a comment with the link of your post, so I can evaluate if you're one of the 3 lucky Steemians that will get a full upvote from me.
What’s Your Most Consistent Hobby For The Last 5 Years?
Today's topic is not directly related to Steemit, but it's a bit more personal. I thought it would be nice to focus on something different for a change.
So, my most consistent hobby for the last 5 years is... running.
I picked up running in 2011, actually, and I was very lousy at it. During the first year I was running like a week per month and the rest I was spending recovering from some injury: joints, muscles or whatever. It was only in 2012 that I was able to run a marathon and from that moment on, everything changed.
In 2013 I ran another marathon, in 2014 I ran my first ultra-marathon, a 60km race.
Then in 2015 I ran my first 100km race (it was actually a training for the next big one) and then the longest race I did so far, 222km (Ultrabalaton, a lap around the Balaton lake in Hungary). In 2016 I ran my first 24 hours and 48 hours races (for a few montshI had the best result for 48 hours in my country). In 2017 I continued with another 48 hours race and I also signed up for one this year, it will be in September.
I started to run initially to lose weight and I continued to run because it felt good for the mind. That's why I picked up so much on ultra-running and I kinda avoid speed races (marathon counts as a speed race for me).
I train regularly even if I don't have a competition coming up. It became part of my daily / weekly routine.
Also, my running style and goals changed very much: I'm running a lot slower and, apart from some injuries at competitions, I wasn't injured for the last 2 years at all. The goal is not to get a good result at the next competition as it is to keep this habit in my life for as long as possible.
So, that was my most consistent hobby for the last 5 years. Looking forward for yours. Don't forget to add a link to your post in the comments so I can check it out.
