HE'S THE SHERLOCK HOLMES!

There is one very new and interesting person on the platform that really deserve an attetion, because of the work he is doing here. He calls himself @sherlockholmes and he searches for plagiarism, spam, hatespeech, steem corruption and more. Cutting people doing this from the reward pool will make the platform only more respected in its ability to self govern.

I am making this post mostly because his last case was about @walterz and his plagiarized images. I thought he is a good guy, because he had such a high reputation. I would never tell that these images could be plagiarized. However, they were! Making money out of the content that is not yours is really a bad thing and I think he deserved it.

Despite all of this one great thing came out of this situation. The original author of the photos registered to steemit today! He makes some really nice pictures and he is trying to help everyone on his youtube channel with making photos like he do.

Go and follow him - @thompjerry.

I investigated too!

It's funny, because finding that these photos were plagiarized was very easy, but I wouldn't honestly expect that people do this even with such a big reputation! He was also linked to the WhaleShares community, but it has nothing to do with WhaleShares at all and things like these can happen to any group on steemit. OfficialFuzzy took precautions against walterz and situation like this shouldn't happen again.

I don't even understand how it was possible that he was doing this for so long without any detection. Maybe people know TinEye, a website where you can search by image and find where that image appears online, but it didn't give me any results so I stopped using it.

What did help me a lot to find that those images are plagiarized was google chrome and its very useful feature.

  1. Right-click to any image you see
  2. Click "Search Google for this image".
  3. A new tab will open with your results.

Even with walterz fake copyright on the images the "google image search" gave me results exactly going to the real author, Thomp Jerry.

Even just searching for the tools that walterz used to make his "images" gave me the straight way to the real author.

And Thomp Jerry's youtube links sent me to his instagram account where it was clear that the images were plagiarized by walterz.

And there you have it.

Look how easy it was to find the real author and for how long it was working for walterz. This post hopefully gave you a way and method how you can check for plagiarized content for yourself and be your own police.

Of course, some people don't just straight copy it, but I think there are a lot of people doing it this way, because it is fast and easy. It's time to find those people and bring the real authors to the steemit platform!

Thank you!
