January has been an interesting month for cryptocurrency, after the boom of December things have only gone downhill. Steem has been resisting the free fall. Let's see how things are going with Steemit.
How many people visit Steemit.com?
This statistic shows the number of visits to the Steemit.com site

As we can see from the numbers, the number of people visiting the website keeps going up. There is a 41.12% increase in Total visits which puts the total at 48.5 million. Also the number of Monthly unique visitors has risen, In December there were 13.9 million unique visitors and now we are approaching the 18 million mark.
This includes visits from different devices like laptops/PC and smartphones).
The downward crypto spiral doesn't seem to have affected the interest in Steemit. Though the rise is not as high as it was in december (80%) it is still some impressive growth. More interesting though is the increase of unique visitors from 13.9 million to almost 18 million.

Let's take a look at the growth over a longer period of time. As we can see in this graph things have really picked up since November of last year and there are no signs of it stopping any time soon. Based on this pattern I predict a total of 60 million visits next month.
Where do they come from?
This statistic shows which countries the visits originate from.

Some interesting things are happening here. The U.S. usually dominates with more than 30% but now they have dropped below the 30% mark. What changed? well Korea has increased their share rising up to 5.6% taking over the no. 2 spot from the UK. Korea has had an impressive growth of visits in the first month of 2018, almost 80%. It seems that all the other countries are also adding to the overall growth. Just look at those numbers from Germany, while the overall growth in the U.S. seems to be going down.
How did they find Steemit?
This statistic shows from which destination the visitors originated

Not much has changed from December last year. Organic searches are still the biggest source of visits to Steemit. Social media has gone up a bit (from 9.9% to 10.5%). Direct visits have increased (from 24% to 27%) probably because of the increase of Steemians.
Who is generating the Traffic?

I can only say one thing about these stats.. Dtube is back, baby! After dropping from the charts last month Dtube is back with a vengeance. Topping the charts with 14.68%. Eos.io is still good for 12.45%.
I am wondering however where the other sites like Utopian are. Let's see if they are able to join Dtube in the coming months.
Investing is still the main referring category probably this is a result of the many crypto blogs on the Steemit site.
What are they searching for?

I had to double check these stats to be sure but yes....haejin and the Thor Ragnarok movie are in the top 5 of the Search Terms. Apparently the topics haejin and the blonde Avenger are more popular than the bitconnect scam...go figure! I don't know how I feel about a full movie search showing op in these stats. I hope that Dtube finds a way to battle the piracy before it is too late.
Also interesting is the Vice ICO (don't laugh but I actually had to look it up!) But of course I could have guessed that a porn crypto would be this popular. C'mon Steemians get your minds out of the gutter!
Social media interest
This is the traffic originating from the social media sites.

This is one of the stats that I find the most interesting. Which competitor is generating the most traffic. In the previous month Facebook was the no. 1 supplier of traffic but now Twitter has taken the lead. An interesting development to say the least. It might be part of a "promote Steemit on Twitter" campaign. Rein those twitter birds in, that's all I can say.
This increased interest from Twitter might have something to do with the Zappl app. Let's be honest if you going to tweet at least you should get paid for it, am I right?
If you are wondering how much traffic the Social Media sites have generated then let me enlighten you:
Steemit is still doing A-OK. Things are not as spectacular as they were in December but the people visiting Steemit is still growing fast.
Things are changing though, Koreans are getting more interested in Steemit it seems and the growth of Americans is declining.
For the first time a Steemian is in the top 5 of search results @haejin is drawing in crowds with his crypto predictions.
On a lesser note movie searches are also popping up in the top search results, as far as I am concerned this is a unwanted development. I hope that Dtube doesn't turn into safe haven for pirated movies.
Keep Steemin' my fellow Steemians so that the platform can grow. I'll be back next month for another edition of Steemit Statistics.
