Raelina's Revenge
Raelina approached her Queen, Sinestra, "Your Highness, the Feral's continue to invade our lands, and murder our children and steal our webbings for their own nefarious uses. We must do something. I have just returned from the border, the Fire beetles have done significant damage to them. We should strike while they are recovering."
"I know your heart Raelina, I know the Ferals killed your mate and destroyed your home. We are not strong enough yet for vengeance. The fire beetles only marched through, they did not kill enough, they are on a mission, they are well disciplined to have passed up on the opportunities they had to destroy. Our spies do not have enough information on the purpose of their march, we must learn ot the purpose, then make and set our own plans in place. Send forth an envoy to the Fire Beetle commander, let him or her know I would speak with them." Sinestra ordered Raelina.
"Yes your Highness, I shall leave at once." Raelina replied, as she curtsied and turned to leave. "Do not fail in this task Raelina, I will speak to them", Sinestra hissed in a warning type of tone.
Raelina, First Warden of Queen Sinestra. Her job was Spy Master, and Warden of the Southern Border. While on a mission for Queen Sinestra, her family was murdered by a band of Feral Spirits after the legendary strand of Haunted Web. As the First Warden, Raelina had a small supply always on hand at her home. She did not know how that came to be common knowledge, but somehow the Ferals discovered it. She knew it was the Ferals, for her husband had killed one, and may have wounded another. She was forbidden from giving pursuit
Five years ago, and the pain was still as sharp as it had been on that day. She took measures to ensure what had happened to her, would not happen to any of her brethren; and the Southern border has been safe ever since. Now she had to "open" the southern border to the fire beetles at her Queens bidding. She had a good crew, and they would re-establish the border net when the small Fire Beetle force was through.
Raelina approached the Fire Beetle force at the final webgate. "your commander, bring him or her forward" Raelina ordered to the first soldier beetle she saw. From the middle of the pack came a long lean sleek female Fire Beetle, almost queen looking and Raelina was sure of royal blood, and a possible heir to the throne.
"How dare you"...the commander started in..."Silence, your men will be escorted through to the north gate. You will be taken before my Queen at her command. Is that clear enough to you?" Raelina stared down the commander of the beetle force. "Now what is your name and how would you prefer to be introduced to my Queen?"
"You pompous bitch I demand you let us through or we will burn you to the ground. As for my name you lowlife servile flunky, I am Princess Flare Thrower, second cousin twice removed from my brood queen. We go where and when we want." Raelina just stared at the princess."Now let us pass or be burned." the princess demanded.
Raelina just continued to stare her down for a few moments, seeing a small drip of sweat beginning to form on the princesses brow.
The Princess looked upon the unbending stance of Raelina, "So be it, you were warned." with those words she tossed out a small molten flare toward Raelina. She stumbled back a step seeing no attempt on Raelina's part to move out of the way. The flare hit her square in the face, and and nothing happened. "Wha..wha...how..wha..wha.. "Raelina decided to end the fools mumbling stutter.
"I am Raelina First Warden of her Majesty Queen Sinestra, sister to Sinestra, not cousin and not removed and not part of an overfed brood of monkeys", with that she whipped out a compulsion web and caught the princess. "now you will accompany me to my sister, the Queen. When we arrive you will bow before her, treat her with the utmost respect and if she so demands you will kiss her little pinky toe. Do you understand me now Princess", Raelina's voice dripped with sarcasm.
