SELFIE (An Original Poem)

Arms extended,
shoulders squared,
our best angle
for the camera

five shots,
each, slightly different
but only the best one
makes the cut

what once was alive
is now just an
inanimate object
a hollow moment,
frozen in time

nothing but a
frame of reference
soon to be judged
and measured against
all imperfections
and every assumption
that comes before and after.

A little about this poem - In this age of social media it’s so easy to get caught up in wanting to recording our lives instead of living them. Most of us know that one person who takes it a bit too far. This is what inspired this poem.
