On the first night
It's often the same:
Outrage and marching
To call out for peace.
Throughout the night
linking our songs and
Arms, to demand shame
For all injustice.
Hear the pained scream
It's the cry of time
Singing from humans
Since the first pale dawn.
Before we knew
Then there was night two,
Video-less night
Still too much to see.
The violence
Simmered like a flame
Caught on the edges
Of a tablecloth.
A fire burns
Brighter when it's blown,
Oxygen feeding
Every reaction.
No could see
But there on night three
Their protest was joined
By humanity.
Our history
Bound by the struggle,
Innate human need
Only to be free.
We are all one
Fighting each other
Because it's too hard,
This fight in ourselves.
I can't get Charlotte off of my mind. I'm wishing safety and peace to everyone down south, and to everyone in dangerous situations around this world.
