This is one of those incredible stories that you never know where reality and where the legend begins.
The point is that, whether by chance or by the designs of fate, this article has reached us to Steemit as came to the protagonist of this story the outcome that you will see below.
I'll introduce you a little:
- Our protagonist is a Texas businessman named Henry Ziegland.
(I have not found contrasted sources pics of this man)
- A village called Honey Grove, in Texas.
- A noble girl and her brother from Honey Grove of wich no names are specifieds.
- Events ocurred at the end of s. XIX and beginnings of the s. XX (1893-1913).
As curious fact, this story appears in the book "Casualities, Coincidences and Serendipities of History" from Gregorio Doval.
-A young woman deceived, two suicides and a bullet-
The timber businessman Henry Ziegland was courting a young woman day and night, until her, by his determination, just rendered into his arms.
He promises her marriage, eternal happiness and a long future together as a couple.
However, when our charlatan protagonist gets her cherished virginity, all the "castles in the air" crumble and leaves her bluntly.
The girl feeling cheated and abused was ashamed before the accumulation of rumors in the small town, and commits suicide.
Her brother, spectator unable to avoid such tragedy and deeply hurt, decides to avenge the honor of his sister and his family.
Following Mr. Ziegland to the forest without him noticing it and when they reach the height of a small clearing and a large tree, brother approaches him looking directly into his eyes, pointing his revolver at the head of the deceased of his misfortune and pull the trigger.
The bullet drew a direct and accurate path to the skull of his victim, which would have reached if it had not been because the rapid Ziegland's ultimately reaction. For milliseconds, the bullet just grazes the face of the man, crashing into the tree bark.
The boy, seeing the bloodied Ziegland's face and believing him mortally wounded, throws the gun into the bushes and runs without checking the death and believing his revenge fulfilled.
Past few days the memory of the shooting and bloody face don't let the brother's conscience to rest. Dreaming the face of his supposedly dead victim and about rivulets of blood that he lose sleep, decides to elude both of these nightmares and to prevent the weight of justice and punishment of the law, to get together with his beloved small sister, committing suicide.
A tragedy in the village that left unpunished the timber businessman, as having survived the incident, and could being without worries after the brother's suicide.
During 20 years no one asked him some explanation about this case and he did not hold any load on his conscience.
However, a bullet was waiting patient the precise moment that the threads of fate were weaving and it could see fulfilled its revenge.
According to the story, it's said that businesses brought back Mr. Ziegland to Honey Grove 20 years after those incidents.
Had custom for cut a forest's area and earn a portion of wood.
Coincidence or fate wanted to put this man in front of the same tree where a young man tried to kill him 20 years ago.
Also tells the story that the tree bark was as hard as rock and Ziegland's workers could not make a dent in it.
Mr. Ziegland, tired of the harshness of that tree and the vivid memories that now appeared before him, decided to blow it and rid of that annoying.
What Henry Ziegland didn't imagine, it was that fate had delicately preparing all the pieces on the board.
When popping the trunk, thousands of splinters' fragments flew in all directions, and among these fragments, a 20-year-old bullet headed straight to the man with the name that was engraved in its metal.
In just a few seconds, the life of the man who had eluded fate for a while, began to escape from his body to gush.
