Travel tip: Pilsen – beautiful Czech city famous for (not only) world-known beer

Hi to all of my Steemit friends and followers!

I am here with yet another post promoting my homeland, the Czech Republic. This time, I will show you around one of the most famous Czech cities – Pilsen (or Plzen in the Czech langage).

Located some 90 km (56 mi) west of Prague, Pilsen is the fourth largest city of the country with a population of about 170,000. The origin of the city dates back to as early as 976 and it was just a few centuries later (in 1375 to be precise) when Pilsen was given the right to brew beer by the king Charles IV. The iconic beverage has been produced in the city ever since, making it the world´s oldest brewery to survive to these days.

However, Pilsen has much more to offer than just delicious, top-quality beer. The city boasts numerous historical monuments and architectural jewels such as the Great Synagogue (see the first photo) or the Gothic St. Bartholomew's Cathedral.

Pilsen is also well-known to many sports fan as the city is home to several renowned and successful sport teams, most notably the football (soccer) club FC Viktoria Pilsen, multiple Czech champions who have been regularly playing the Champions League.
