Tainan has lots to offer in terms of food, especially all kinds of 'small eats' - they are delicate, small in size (so you can eat more than three times in one day!), and everywhere! We have introduced fruits, desserts and fish soups before this post, but be warned that the real deal is coming!! Noodles! This is the indispensable part of Tainan cuisine.

Since we have been to Tainan for many times, we have already known that you don't always have to go to the best stores recommended in the traveler's guide, basically most stores in Tainan have good enough quality! This tip would save you some trouble of waiting in the long queue for the hottest stores. So, today I am sharing two classical noodle dishes - Danzai Noodles and Yee Mien (Egg Noodles) of Tainan. We just bumped into these two stores and did due diligence (yeah, enough people eating inside already... XD) and the result is great! Both are great!

Danzai Noodles /

One of Tainan's signature dish is "Danzai noodles". It features oil noodles with minced pork and fresh shrimp in a shallow broth. It is traditional that the chef in charge would be sitting on low stools preparing noodles in front of a boiling pot. You get to see every move s/he makes cooking your noodles!

Yee Mien /

Yee Mien is just one kind of noodles that is famous in Tainan. Basically I don't quite understand the difference between it and other noodles except that it has egg as an ingredient. But different noodles do taste differently though. You will have to eat it to distinguish it! Yee Mien is common in daily lives in Tainan. Basically you order a bowl of noodles , some other side dishes like bean-curd and maybe a bowl of wanton soup as well. That would be a good afternoon snack or even a light meal for the locals.
