After Bali (@koskl/exotic-bali), I flew to Labuan Bajo in Flores. I found a room for the night, and asked about excursions to nearby islands.
There was a group departing for Kanawa island for a two day stay in bungalows, so I booked it. You can read more about it at http://wikitravel.org/en/Kanawa.
Early start in the morning, and off to Kanawa. It was a bright sunny day, and when we started approaching the island, I noticed how small it was.

My bungalow
Of course we had no hot water in the bungalows, only the basics; a bed, a mosquito-net, a table and a chair. And I had an en-suite, but it was basically a Turkish toilet, a sink, and a shower.
There was only one restaurant in the place, and a family of local people were running it. They were very friendly. I stayed for two days with the other people from the group, all of us in bungalows.
One day was very hot, and there was no wind at all. I remember that day, because it was like I found heaven on earth. I stayed most of the day on the beach, getting out only a couple of hours for lunch.
The fish was so delicious and fresh, and all food organic and locally sourced. We had to wait an hour though to get it, and that exasperated most of the group.
We spent all day on the beach, swimming with the locals. The kids were using a tall guy from the group as a scaffold to climb up and jump.
Having fun on the beach.
Of course, I have to post a couple of pictures for the sunset too.
Sunset at Kanawa.
There was a generator for the whole island that shut down at night, so it was just candles, the stars and the moon. But the sky was so clear, you could see all of them.
Well, looking back at that trip, it was something I needed. The place was very relaxing, the people were very friendly, there was a lot of snorkeling to do. Even scuba diving if you had the equipment.
I had a great time, and it was worth both the money and the effort.
