Japan Trip in Kyoto - Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine 伏見稲荷大社 [Original Content ]

Another must see spot in Kyoto - the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine! We went there early morning at around 7am so we would have the place more or less for ourselves. Join us to our trip to this amazing place!

Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of Inari, located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan.

At first we wanted to go by bicycle but it was raining. Hence we took the taxi and we got dropped right in front of the gates. First, there were some shrines and buildings. Everything was actually bigger than expected!

The shrine sits at the base of a mountain also named Inari and includes trails up the mountain to many smaller shrines which span 4 kilometers and takes approximately 2 hours to walk up.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of those red pillared gates. all along the trail up towards the mountain. The trail is going through a forest and it is truly magical. There is also a small creek and different kind of stairways and bridges.

To the top of the mountain are tens of thousands of mounds for private worship. Foxes, regarded as the messengers, are often found in Inari shrines. One attribute is a key in their mouths.

We didn't go all the way up to the mountain and returned back half way up. We followed another trail going down and it was almost like going through a cemetery.

We hope you liked this post about the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto. This was one of our favourite spots to explore here besides the Bamboo Grove, which we did a post about here:
