Hi Steemians,
Today I will taking you to Harbin's most famous attraction - the Harbin International Ice & Snow Sculpture Festival. If you have read my previous two travel posts, I have taken you to the Snow Sculpture Festival where you can find here Part 1 & Part 2. The Annual Ice & Snow Sculpture Festival was the main reason we traveled to Harbin and we were not disappointed. The festival takes place in Harbin every year and is considered the largest festival in the world and features some of the world's biggest ice sculptures. Harbin is situated on north of China and is famous for its very cold weather which can be as low as -24 degrees or -38 degrees which was coldest ever recorded. Also another factor is the long winter (60-70 days in a year) which is why the festival can be held here annually.
We were able to get our hotel to organise us transport to get to the festival but the driver had to leave us a bit further as the organisers didn't allow many cars near the entrance. Once we go out of our car, our worst fear has already begun. Our cameras didn't work!! The weather was just too cold and the camera just wasn't responding until we got inside.
Luckily when we got inside, our camera started to work and we quickly took some photos before it decides to 'play dead' again. There were so many people around just getting exciting seeing the ice sculptures. We didnt know were to start so we just decided to walk in a circle so we don't miss out on anything. There were also some horse carriages you can hire to take you around the park so at least you don't have to walk as the park was huge! Look at how big that castle was - it reminds me of a Disney Castle made out of ice. There were also a lot of music around and can see that the ice sculptures change colour according to the music being played.
After some quick photos, we were told there were some indoor performances in a cafeteria. We decided to get something to eat and enjoy the local performance - there was no extra fee to see this as it was included in the ticket price. There were many locals and foreigners and everyone was having a good time. The food there weren't the best but it was not bad considering we were in a tourist attraction.
After the performance finished we decided to go outside to explore again. We saw this massive bell and people were trying to make it ring.
All the ice sculptures were lit up with pretty rainbow colours. You can also go into some of them but need to watch out as it was very slippery
This just looks like an ice wonderland
This large group of people were trying to take some funny group photos in front of this sculpture and many of them couldn't even stand on the ice properly without slipping. Haha
Look at how thick the ice was
The venue also had snow sculptures and there was a Buddha and Guan Yin for people to pray and offer incense
Tomorrow I'll show you more of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival.
