Hello everyone! Welcome to the Hong Kong to walk volume 8. Remember last time we have visit the Hong Kong Science Museum for a special exhibition “Eternal Life – Exploring Ancient Egypt”? Not sure have you guys gone too deep on it. Of course, after all this hard time to come to the Hong Kong Science Museum, we will not just visit the special exhibition. We will also visit the permanent exhibitions. (Actually it is because the ticket price include the permanent exhibitions, it would be wasted if we leave the permanent exhibitions out)
The method to visit the Hong Kong Science Museum has been mentioned in my previously post, you can refer by the above link if you would like to check. And now, let me straight into the topic to introduce the permanent exhibition to you. The permanent exhibition was designed by different section/hall, including Biodiversity Gallery, Life Sciences, E&M Gallery, Science News Corner, Sound, Food Science, Home Technology, Transportation, Children's Gallery…And please let me to introduce some to you.
The first hall I visited is the Biodiversity Gallery. The purpose of this hall is to increase the public awareness for the importance of biodiversity conservation. The museum hopes to promote public appreciation of biodiversity conservation and of making proper changes to the public lifestyles through different specimen, scene and games.
Then I came to the Life Sciences area, in this hall, the exhibition covers different area of life science including prehistoric life, human and various animal bones structure, human bodies and functions of the organs. And the exhibitions have setup different games and experiments to let the visitors explore the mysteries of life sciences.
And then I visited the E&M Gallery, in this area, there are a lot of different interactive exhibits designed to show you the different phenomenon of electricity and magnetism. The main idea is to let the public understand the principles behind the exhibits in a simple and light-hearted way. You can understand the source of electric power, theory of why human body is a conductor, and how a motor work by different games in the hall.
At last, I visited the Children's Gallery, it is a new hall operated this year. The design concept is “Playing is the best way for children to learn about and discover the world around them”. The exhibits encourage children to exert their imagination, and also encourage them to cooperate and complete missions together.
And I bet the most attractive exhibit here is the Big Kids’ Work Site. This is actually a simulated large complex working site, to let children to have a role play game. The work site includes an unfinished house which required children to use different tools to help them finish the building, including crane, conveyor belt, wheel barrow, etc. The concept for the exhibit is to enables children to develop their social skills, and to let them learn the concept of engineering work for building a house
One thing to remind you guys is to play the Big Kids’ Work Site, you have to take a chips. So, remember to take it earlier.
The game is actually very simple; basically it is just transporting bricks.
All kinds of method for brick transporting
Kids and adult transport together.
In conclusion, the Hong Kong Science Museum is a very nice place. It use the most simplest way to let us interact with different science topic. And it designed different game to let us know more for the theory. I do suggest this place to all age.
