Travel Pro Eats #5: Kow Mooooooo! In Chiang Mai Thailand (5 food photos)

Hey there my Steemit friends. Today we eat Kow Moooooooo! Recently in Chiang Mai Thailand I enjoyed this popular dish. In Thai kow means pig and moo means leg. That would certainly confuse Old McDonald! So Kow Moo is stewed pork leg. As much as I love this dish I equally like to say Kow MOOOOOO! That's my Thai accent in writing. They tend to draw out certain words and cut other words short. It's a very sing songy language. I can enjoy listening to it all day and not have a clue what they're saying.

I've seen stands like this all throughout the country. This is some classic Thai street dinner food. It always tends to draw a crowed. You can see by the quantity of stewed pork that they do some business, and they'll likely sell out each night. I had to wait a few minutes in line to get my portion.

What they do is boil a bunch of pork legs with some sort of brown sugar or molasses and soy sauce as you can taste it; unless those Thai piggies are just so darn sweet. Then they offer a boiled egg on the side for an extra 30 cents, a spicy vinegary chili sauce and a second bag of the stewed pork drippings, some bitter greens which I don't really like and a side of rice.

Chiang Mai is known for having the best deals in any major populated area in Thailand and to no surprise they really hook you up with some sticky piggy goodness. Look at that portion for 50 Thia Baht or about $1.50 US! Imagine getting a meal like that in the western world for just some pocket change. This is why Thailand is such a great pay less get more country.

I really chowed down that night. This is one of my favorite Thai dishes I've been enjoying since my first visit to Thailand about 15 years ago at the ripe old age of 20. Thailand is a very special country and certainly a favorite of mine. Between the food, weather, people, beaches, culture, low crime, quality service, good infrastructure and all at incredibly affordable prices; Thailand keeps bringing me back time and time again. So if you ever visit Thailand enjoy your Kow Mooooooo! Until next time. -Dan "World Travel Pro!"
