Dear Steemit friends and followers,
Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I would like to take you to a place that is very special to all Czech people, the legendary Mount Rip.

Located just outside the village of Mnetes in the Northwestern Czech Republic, the Mount Rip is a solitary hill covered with forests. It is actually now very high, standing just 455 m (1,493 ft) tall but since it is located on an extensive flatland, it is visible from all sides, creating a dominant feature of the area.

The prominent location of the mountain is believed to be the reason why, according to a popular Czech legend, the Forefather Czech led his Slavic tribe towards it. When he climbed the hill, he allegedly looked over the landscapes below and decided to settle there.

Based on this legend, the Mount Rip is considered the birthplace of the Czech nation and its history and is therefore a very popular place among domestic visitors. There are several hiking trails leading to the top of the hill where the Romanesque Rotunda of St. George is also found. Dating back to the early 12th century (or possibly even the 11th century), it is one of the oldest churches in the country.
The Mount Rip is also the site of the annual Rip Pilgrimage where participants can pay tribute to the Forefather Czech.
