As you may know, over the weekend I was visited by an old friend who goes by the name of Mr. Murphy. It is a bit of an exaggeration to say we are friends, but it doesn't do our relationship any justice to relegate it to acquaintance status, either. The truth is, we have met so often in life that we are more than mere acquaintances, but we certainly don't kiss, hug, hold hands, go fishing together, or do any of the traditional things that old friends do. In fact, when Mr. Murphy comes around, the last thing I want to think about is getting physical.
So I started my day off like I usually do. I got up to the alarm clock ringing, fed Lady Montague, and made the coffee. Here's Lady Montague:

As you can see, she's trying her best to ignore me. This was obviously not at feeding time. It was also not today.
At any rate, pardon the digression, after making the coffee, I went to my desk and started the day upvoting some of my favorite Steemians, then I sent a few emails to my wife who was still sleeping but who also helps me with my business when she's awake. Then I set about taking care of some of the daily tasks related to my business.
As a freelance writer, I often find myself working on projects that push me toward a hard deadline. Today was a relatively light day. I edited a blog post one of my backup writers wrote and published it and checked my LinkedIn messages, responding to the ones I thought needed the most attention. Next, I called a prospective client to find out a bit more about the book project he wanted me to write.
The day toodled on and I completed my work, so I kicked out a Steemit post. Then I had a surprise visitor.
Toddler, Toddler, Are You a Waddler?
I found out that my daughter's electricity went out early this afternoon and that she would be bringing my granddaughter over to get her out of the heat (because the air conditioning runs on electricity). Young Evelyn is not quite two years old. In fact, she's just slightly younger than Lady Montague.
One thing you have to know about Evelyn is this: She loves food. Especially when her Poppy has some.
The first thing Miss Evelyn wanted was the television to be fixed. There was nothing playing on it and that had to be rectified. So I put on one of her favorite cartoons, Splash and Bubbles, to which she loves to sing and dance. Of course, she doesn't know all the words any more than her Poppy does, but she does her best to keep up.
After that, it was snack time. First, we ate some raspberries. Then I fed her some left over pasta that my wife and I had two nights ago. After that, she sat on the sofa with me and we ate some popcorn.
Now, Evelyn is very quickly learning to talk. She says "Popcorn," but is sounds more like "pop." And she says Grammie, which is what all the grandkids call my wife, but it sounds like "Meemee." And she'll pretty much repeat anything you say to her and it will be close enough that you know she precisely what she was trying to say. She's a very good mimicker.
And, of course, we had to play with all her favorite toys, the ones that make noise, that move and bounce, and that roll on the floor--like the huge yellow softball that somehow ended up in her toy bin.
Finally, her "Da-da" showed up and they went home.
As you can see, it was a fun-filled day. We had a lot going on. But you know what I didn't do today? I didn't drive anywhere because my vehicle is still at my friend Bill's house, and I hope he's working on it right about now. But since Steemit appears to be having technical issues right now, I guess I'll post this first thing in the morning.
