FreeCAD - Greek Translation (Part 4 - approximately 1240 words)

Project Details

Hello everyone,

as mentioned in my previous contribution, I have been on a new Steemit mission since @utopian-io & @davinci.witness launched the Translation Category, giving us the opportunity to offer our services and help in the translation of various Open Source projects. As explained previously, FreeCAD is my second project. FreeCAD is an Open Source AutoCAD competitor that runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, and supports various types of open file formats.

FreeCAD is a great tool that comes with unique advantages. The most significant advantage over its competition is the fact that this product won't even join the race. This is obviously an Open Source project and was developed with the utilization of content from all significant Open Source libraries in the field of Computational Science. This basically means that even though it was never designed to compete, it is safe to say that there is no competition. And that is because too many bright minds around the world can keep doing research and improving all modules of this software simultaneously.

There is more to that, Open Source means there are no limitations. What better way to assist scientific progress and development than with the creation of free powerful tools. It might be obvious to many of you, however the fact that this is an Open Source project is definitely the most significant advantage of FreeCAD. Another reason why this is so important, is the fact that it can be used by other programs as a library as well. Suppression of information can slow our civilization's progress down, that's why Open Source projects are a technological blessing of our times.

I felt like I had to provide some feedback regarding my personal experience of the past weeks while working on the translation of this project. It definitely is a demanding project, mainly because technical terms are plentiful and it's rather significant to translate each string with precision in order to produce a quality end product. However I have to say that some strings are poorly written and can cause great confusion to inexperienced translators. Another factor that increases the difficulty level of this endeavor is the programming terminology included, making it impossible at times to translate particular strings into Greek. I will keep working hard and doing my best to provide the best possible outcome.

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview

This is the fourth part of a very demanding project, as explained in the previous paragraphs. We should always keep in mind that FreeCAD is a large project that consists of roughly 32,000 words. I will be translating from 1,000+ to 1,200+ words in each part, making sure to conclude at least two to three parts every seven days so that this project is finished in time. My translation is now 15,8% complete and subject to @ruth-girl's proof-reading.

  • Languages

The current project is being translated from English to Greek.

  • Word Count

According to Crowdin, in this part I translated 1,240 words (1,262 as demonstrated on Crowdin, minus approximately 2% of those as untranslated words). Almost 87 words were corrected from previously submitted translations in the period of time demonstrated in the screenshots below.
