Pittige Tante

This was supposed to be my 3rd entry in the Steemit Photo Challenge but I couldn't decide which picture to choose so I've decided to just post it as food art.

I used to do a lot of this back in the Philippines but not raw - more of beans soaked in formalin or other scrap materials then dried so they won't decay. I like 3d art a great lot. I used to draw and paint a lot. I stopped painting when I got too busy. When I came here, I had to get rid of so many sketch books, artworks and even the University art projects I've kept for years. Yes, I regret doing that. I should have just sent them here via cargo.

Last weekend, I really wanted to post something different on the photo challenge because when I posted my entries they were the first raw - ingredients pictures but later on, many other posts like that got posted as I was expecting that many other photographers would opt with raw, too.

I thought of making this then just for the sake of fun. Yes, am running another challenge and yet am joining others - why not?

One, it's fun, I really enjoyed both the process of making my entry and the part of watching the other people's entries.

Two, I get to interact and bump along other authors I wouldn't have met nor taken notice.

Three, I get to learn from some of those new authors I've met's blog. Some of them give walk through or photo tutorials for FREE!!! How is that not cool?

Four, I get to make new virtual friends specially those I get to encourage and reciprocated.

Five, I know how it feels when no one is joining :(. How could we say no to the generosity of the sponsors?

Whether I win or not - I never did care, after all - in many ways, I'm already a winner aren't we all? I'm never a competitive person, my folks didn't bring us up that way. We're three girls and people could count on their fingers the times my sisters and I fought. My parents brought us up - having the same exact stuff. Can you imagine wearing the same top, skirt and shorts and going out of the streets with your younger sisters? We used to get teased and asked which dance contest are we on back then but though I didn't like it - I get my mom. Somehow, because my sisters and I knew we'd be teased - we ganged up against those who teased us and obviously - it just worked for all three of us. I think that's called collaboration. I like that word more that the word "competition" and I really appreciate it a great lot that every challenge here is named "A challenge" not a competition.

I think the first challenge I've joined was the Steemit photo challenge. I love photography and if I remember it right @thecryptofiend was the first author I followed because he was making magic on portrait posts. I suck at making one - either my subjects laugh or I can't capture the right light, shadow - whatever. Three months ago, I accidentally mistaged this post and caught the attention of jamtaylor's wife - who told me that I must have had a premonition on what's the theme for that week was going to be - MACRO.

That's the first time I've met @mweich - he won that challenge and finally, I got noticed. This was my entry for that week and from 1 upvote - which was just my own - I got 10. I was happy with the slow improvement ha ha ha. Yes, I'm laughing at it now. Yesterday, was my 3rd month here and oh what a climb - I'm loving it. No, it wasn't all ups - there were also downs but - all the fun I got and the people I've met plus the many great things I've watched happen here - I'm happy I joined.

This week, I was checking out entries because most of the time that's when you get to find other authors that do photography, too. I found @countrygirl by accident - not because she joined the challenge but because of the tag. Then, as I was going through steemd.com returning upvotes to the voters who upvoted my past posts despite the fact that I was recharging my voting power, (yes I return upvotes - you don't? Shame on you - just kidding - it's your right ) anyway, I found @zviad and couldn't help but comment on his portrait pic post. Well if you clicked the blued words then you know - they're both a wowza shot! Last time, I also bumped into @ianboil, his portrait pics are also awesomeness!

Anyway, I've decided not to post this as an entry in the photo challenge this week because I haven't posted much art work. In my introduce yourself post, I did mention that I'm going to share this but the only one I've posted on art is this and it's even mistagged. I only learned tagging later on - I was slow when I was a malnourished minnow ha ha!

I also hesitated posting this as art because I ate those mandarins and almond (more giggles) - noooo~~ I couldn't help myself so I thought should it just be tagged photography or food - art. What do you think - which would you choose if I were you?

Anyway, let me share the process that pic above went through to you. Steemit has brought back the love and rekindled the sleeping passion I have on many things and this isn't a meme - it's a freaking fact!

I scribbled just this. Then I just went to the kitchen and looked for weird ingredients. Something people won't use nor think - it's food nor would dare eat it. Why? That makes it provocative. I didn't think of doing that to piss people off - in my experience, that's what works the most but I could be wrong, too so tell me, had I posted this as an entry would you not object that garlic - my first choice of ingredient - is food? Although it is .

And I picked the mandarins as the next one - can you imagine what the combi of those two would taste like? I juiced a few back then with 3 cloves of crushed garlic for hub when he got a whooping cough - it was a yuck! But hey, it tasted a lot better than lemon and garlic. Did it work as a cough medicine? Yes, it did whether it was placebo or the garlic did the trick - his cough loosen up and he got better faster. I used to take calamunding juice with garlic back when I was a kid when I was having asthma attack - yes it was torture but it helped me get relieved and I hated the stink ha ha ha.

Then I chose the almonds for a belt and had a hard time getting them in a row - like ducks so I had to replace a few to make them fit to the sketch.

Then came the dilemma - I didn't know what ingredient to use next and just thought - darn - pasta! Like a certified OC - I tried arranging them in rows where there won't be any gaps - I failed and asked what on earth was I doing it for that time - and giggling about it now that am writing about it.

I wasn't happy with the empty space so I took the chocolate hails out and spilled it - most of them ended up being eaten. If you're coming to the Steemfest and you see one in your hotel for breakfast - hoard!!!! ha ha ha ... I mean .. try it :). The Dutch Chocolate Hails are freaking yum - specially the dark ones!

So, I made this spiced blond now what? I used my hub's Samsung Galaxy Note A5 2016 edition to take the pic above . Before that I used my Samsung Galaxy Note A3 2016 edition but unfortunately the kitchen lights aren't enough to aid for a good shot or maybe I just wanted a much better one.

I took this pic anyway to show the whole mess I made after that.

This one is captured by the Samsung Galaxy Note A5 2016 edition . The screen of that phone makes one huge difference. It says that we have the same camera - but it captures better.

Here, I added more mandarins to make her face look smaller and she looked sweet.

I took a close up and she doesn't look like a 'pittige tante" anymore - "pittige" means spicy, firey or feisty in Dutch and "tante" means aunt. She's more of sweet.

I took more shots and she always looked very different. Do you see it, too? Angles do make someone look different right? What's your best angle when you take your pic?

Here, her face is pretty wide. That's after three peeled mandarins.

Then I tried taking it from these angles and that's when I started eating the mandarins. Can you blame me?

Here, she finally looked like a "Pittige Tante", don't you think?

So, what do you think now? Should it be tagged photography or art ? Too late, I already chose art so there :).

I usually blog about cooking, gardening and photography and if you happen to be interested in all of those, too .
