As many of you already know...
This past Monday, August 29th, Gene Wilder passed away from complications of alzheimer's disease.
I remember watching Mel Stuart's rendition of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a young boy. I was always the strange child that enjoyed children's movies that incorporated a bit of creepiness.
I loved the Oompa Loompas, the weird boat tunnel, the way that brat blew up into a blueberry...and of course, the thought of never ending candy with a chocolate river to dip it in, is every child's dream.
So here it is, my mixed media memorial to Gene Wilder!
I made this piece of art with a mixture of watercolors and Sharpies. This is my first mixed media art piece, and my first time using watercolors. I really enjoyed working with this mix and plan on using them again in the near future! Keep on the look out.
Willy Wonka: Try some more. The strawberries taste like strawberries, and the snozzberries taste like snozzberries.
Veruca Salt: Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?
Willy Wonka: [grabbing Veruca's mouth and pinching it a bit to hold it open] We are the music makers... and we are the dreamers of dreams
Willy Wonka: Where is fancy bred, in the heart or in the head?
Charlie Bucket: Mr. Wonka, they won't really be burned in the furnace, will they?
Willy Wonka: Hm... well, I think that furnace is only lit every other day, so they have a good sporting chance, haven't they?
Mr. Salt: What is this, Wonka? Some kind of funhouse?
Willy Wonka: [glances back at him] Why? Are you having fun?
Mr. Salt: [noticing signs on vats] Wonka. Butterscotch? Buttergin? Got a little something going on the side?Willy Wonka: Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.
Mrs. Gloop: He's gone! He'll be made into marshmallows in five seconds.
Willy Wonka: Impossible, my dear lady! That's absurd! Unthinkable!
Mrs. Gloop: Why?
Willy Wonka: Because that pipe doesn't go to the marshmallow room, it goes to the fudge room!
Mrs. Gloop: You terrible man!
There are so many fantastic quotes from this movie, but alas, you will have to just watch it if you desire more than I have provided. All of the above quotes were borrowed from here.
Of course, there are many other wonderful Gene Wilder movies, but Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was my first and favorite of the lot. It is very nostalgic to me...even though to many kids it is creepy.
I hope you all enjoyed this post. If so, be sure to upvote and follow! I will definitely being doing more watercolor work and doodles...Hey, maybe I'll even put the two together at some point. Watch for the re-introduction of myself this weekend and check out my other pieces of art!
