You can get a real feeling of history when you sit for a break near Japanese castles.
The castle on this site is not the original, but a recreation built in the 50s. However, as far as I know, this stone wall is the real deal and is a few hundred years old. A good place to have lunch, surrounded by the feeling of history.
Japanese Castle Walls
Not many people really pay attention to the stone walls at Japanese castles—there are much more impressive things to look at, like the castle keep. But if you do take a few minutes to study the walls, you will find them pretty impressive. At first appearance, they look random, as if stones were just piled any which way, but they are anything but. They are actually arranged so well that these walls can withstand pretty strong earthquakes. I've read that people had to apprentice under a master for many long years before being allowed to design a wall.
