ArtSearch | 12 Artists to Watch + TNA Curation Standards

Welcome to ArtSearch, a high-quality, all-discipline art curation initiative on steemit run by @TheNewAlchemists (TNA).

We will be focusing on the following steemit art categories:

(1) Creative Writing (fiction, poetry, playwrighting, spoken word etc)
(2) Performance (film, theatre, dance, comedy, improvisation)
(3) Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, modern craft, etc)
(4) Music (all musical styles and genres)
(5) Photography

Currently we have out a call for ArtSearch curators: vetted creatives who will contribute a curation post featuring 7-10 steemit artists every 2 weeks for a 50/50 payout split per contributed post. Find out more and submit your application!

As we build a roster of curators we'll be writing 2+ curation articles a week on a wide variety of artistic disciplines.

Our current curation standards are:

(1) We will curate for quality first and foremost. We believe artists should take the time to create a well thought-out and formatted post to feature their work. It is good business practice, and the number one rule of self-marketing. We want to empower artists who are ready to invest in themselves as entrepreneurs.

(2) We believe "artist" is synonymous with "creative". We loosely define an artist as anyone working creatively and demonstrating a high level of artistry in their work in any sector!

(3) We believe in featuring the "whole artist" as opposed to a single post. We want to help artists get long-term followers, not single upvotes (although those are nice too).

(4) We believe art is a "practice". We will feature artists who show a commitment to growth and development (i.e. a new account that is continually/quickly getter stronger is more interesting to us than an "established" account that is not advancing).

(5) We believe art is tied to the world in which we live. We will prioritize showcasing artists whose work is a reflection of society, or a commentary on it (i.e. art with a message, purpose, or mission) and artists who are underrepresented in mainstream "art" sectors.

(6) We believe in sharing your story and/or your process. We are here to help artists thrive, which means helping to build a community of support for what you are doing. Sharing your story, and your process lets people into your world (and lets us know you're ready to do the extra work it takes to run a terrific blog/business).

(7) We believe art transcends language. If a post is well-written, well-formatted, and features inspiring art we will curate it regardless of whether it is in English.

To kick things off with the ArtSearch Digest | 01, I have decided to feature 12 artists, who are exemplary of ArtSearch curation standards, and who have already joined our community!

Featured Artist: @Vadimlasca

Vadim is a filmmaker from Venezuela! He makes music videos, commercials, and other projects on a case-by-case basis. Here is an amazing post he created with/for his daughter Oriana as part of the Sndbox Summer Camp for filmmakers and photographers

Featured Artist: @Zailecita

Zailé is a Venezuelan photographer who used to study biology before discovering her passion for art 7 years ago. Her favorite photos to take are theatrical photography (see one her incredible snaps below from a recent post!). I have found that her work often reflects on nature, the female body, and our connectivity to the world around us.

Featured Artist: @huslein.slash

Huslein is an Indonesian artist who has quickly distinguished himself to me as someone who works hard, is continuously improving, and puts meticulous attention to detail into every single one of his posts. I love clicking on his work because I know I'm guaranteed quality, and something surprising and inventive from him! For example: this beautiful recent piece:

Featured Artist: @AmeliaBartlett

Amelia is a daily writer and maker who is slowly converting a bus into a liveaboard home and mobile homestead. She's an artist who curates exceptional quality work, founded #ladiesofsteemit, and is someone to watch. Here is one of her beautiful photos of her rescued greyhound, Gallow.

Featured Artist: @soyrosa

Rosanne has been an inspiration to me since Day One. She is one of the very first accounts I ever followed or looked at closely on steemit--and now she is also a good friend. Her eye for quality, style, and aesthetic is remarkable. Her clear articulation of her business model is impressive, and I highly recommend you give her a follow (just look at this beautiful photo below to be convinced)!

Featured Artist: @veckinon

Colin (pronounced call-in—like what you do when you don’t want to go to work in his own words) is a musician, illustrator, writer and a little bit of a scientist. His blog is eclectic and interesting, I can always count on him to post or share something that catches my eye. I love his sketchbook series, where he takes you inside the pages of his old sketch books! Check out this whimsical doodle: Wanna Taste?

Featured Artist: @YahiaLababidi

Yahia is an Egyptian-American thinker, poet, and author of 7 books in 4 genres. His poetry on the platform is amazing, and I truly enjoyed watching this Steemit exclusive conversation between him and @benleemusic! I love that his blog ranges from creative writing to thought-provoking philosophy, to politically charged commentary. Whatever you get, you know it will be smart and interesting -- well worth a follow!

Featured Artist: @Mandelsage

Here is an artist who has been creating for 7 years using fractal maths (or more specifically, programs that take the math and make it into something more visceral) to make his art. His blog aesthetic and commitment to quality are truly outstanding -- especially for someone relatively new to the site! Check out his recent Moonlit Dystopia piece for a taste of what he does!

Featured artist: @Falseyedols

Here's an artist making incredible music and visuals to go along with it, as an audiovisual designer, music educator, curator, and wannabe radio host. His work is always awesome, and recently he dropped an ambient soundscape that I thought was especially awesome. Give it a listen.

Featured Artist: @Abmakko

Abraham is a digital artist whose work combines poly art and flat design mixed with traditional painting style. He is learning and honing his skills via some excellent tutorial posts on steemit that take you along with him in his journey. A wonderful account, with some beautiful pieces, like the one below.

Featured Artist: @Didic

Didi is a translator, editor, and publisher from Israel. He is eclectic af (in his own words), writing about social justice, pro wrestling, science fiction. He runs a bi-weekly book review writing contest and features regular film reviews as well! His style is short, concise, engaging, and informative. One of my favorite steemit authors!

Featured Artist: @Lymepoet

Lavi is a ghost writer, poet, a Lyme disease advocate, and a self-taught painter writing about anything that fuels her creativity. One thing that really interests me in Lavi's work is how she uses art as an alternative form of self expression and pain management therapy -- while simultaneously building awareness about Lyme disease.

And that is all for today and for our first ArtSearch post! There are many more creatives who have already joined The New Alchemists community who I want to feature soon (I'm capping myself at 12, and highlighting people in no particular order!!). Big #love to all you art-makers out there!
