In the vintage world the name Coppola e Toppo is sought after. Rare.
Since we're just getting to know each other, I don't use the word rare lightly.
In 18 years, I've found 2 pairs of Coppola earrings in the wild. One pair was 15 years ago and the pair you see, I found in an estate about 3 months ago.
**Earrings are the easiest part to find in any vintage jewelry set. **
What makes these so special?
Made in Milan Italy in the 1940's, the are the couture of costume jewelry. Coppola made pieces for Dior, Belenciaga and Schiaparelli.
Intriguing designs highlight crystal, Murano glass and plastic beads. The bit of plastic helps make them lighter. Their color combos and arrangements made them impossible to ignore. Graduated colors in crystal on these amazing earrings. In the late 1950's the European fashion center shifted from Paris to Milan and the houses like Pucci, Chanel and other high end luxury brands were commissioning designs for their own lines.
Check out the back. A star or heart in the clip is a dead giveaway. Sometimes the signature is under the clip, sometimes it's not. Early pieces could also be signed Mickey after a beloved pet. Even without a signature, the quality is hard to beat.
These photos are mine, I took them myself. Enjoy!
