Reunion Dinner | 团年饭

It’s customary for Chinese families to have a reunion dinner before Lunar New Year and usually on the eve. In the past, these dinners are at home and quite a lot of work are involved in preparing the dinner. Nowadays, people have started to have reunion dinners earlier before the eve and many prefer to have dinner outside to save the hassle. Recently, our family went to a vegetarian restaurant for reunion dinner. The restaurant is Miao Yi Vegetarian Restaurant located in People’s Park Centre. I cannot explain all the dishes that we have because I was not the one who place the order but I took some nice photos to share here in this post.

团圆饭是我们中华习俗。以前，大多在某亲戚家里大煮一番。现在，很多都觉得太费事。结果都选择到外吃。最近，我们一家也去了家素食餐厅吃团年饭。餐厅是位珍珠大夏的妙益素食楼。我不能解释所有的菜，因为不是我点的菜，但我拍了一些的照片在这里跟大家分享。

It has quite a big space inside and in the far corner there is a small stage.

在最里面的角落有一个小台。

The Dinner | 上菜了

The first dish is called Yusheng. Think of it as a kind of salad which usually includes raw fish but in the case of vegetarian restaurant, the raw fish is replaced with something else. Everyone will toss the “salad” up and mixed it up several times symbolising lots of money making opportunities for all in the year.

第一道菜是鱼生。材料有多种菜，其他配料和生鱼片但在素食餐厅的情况下，生鱼被别的材料取代。每人用一双筷子把料捞起和混合。重复在重复的捞象征整年都有很多捞钱的机会。

Next is combination platter which are different snacks made from flour and mushrooms.

下来是个拼盘。材料都是面粉或菇类。

This is why I called this balance meal. The soup with taiji symbol which symbolizes balance is mainly from bean curd skin and sea week.

这汤就是我为何叫这餐平衡的素菜晚餐。汤的太极图就代表了平衡。使用腐竹和海藻。

This dish should be representing Peking duck.

这道菜应该是代表北京鸭。

Asparagus and lily bud.

芦笋和百合。

This dish has some potato and another kind of mushroom.

这道菜有马铃薯和另一种菇类。

This is mainly stewed monkey head mushroom with ginseng and guji berry (wolfberry). Does the mushroom resembles a monkey head.

这盘是猴头菇焖人参和枸杞。

Fried yee-fu noodle.

炒伊腐面。

For dessert, we have red bean paste pancake. Think of it as apple sturdel but it’s red bean paste inside instead of apple.

甜品是红豆沙窝饼。

Overall, it’s a sumptuous and satisfying meal although I don’t know what some of the stuff. I think it’s a place I shall go back again.

总的来说，对这丰富的一餐还很满意，虽然有时我不知道吃的是什么东西。我觉得我会再回去。

Overall, it’s a sumptuous and satisfying meal although I don’t know what some of the stuff. I think it’s a place I shall go back again. 总的来说，对这丰富的一餐还很满意，虽然有时我不知道吃的是什么东西。我觉得我会再回去。
