This creamed chipped beef gravy over toast recipe is so simple to make and delicious. It is an old military meal that is commonly known as SOS or Shit on a Shingle. LOL! Creamed chipped beef can be eaten any time of the day and can be served over toast, biscuits, noodles or potatoes. It is simple and yummy!
This is another childhood meal for us. My Dad was in the Navy and brought this recipe home with him. We had this at least once a week...for sure! Living in the center of Pennsylvania Amish Dutch country, the chipped beef was readily available and Dad use to buy it buy the pounds and pounds and he would freeze it. Ohhhhhh, the memories! Creamed Chipped Beef ~ SOS ~ Shit on a Shingle Creamy Dried Beef Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
8 oz. chipped dried beef
2-2 1/2 cups milk
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 Tbsp. butter
4 Tbsp. flour
Roughly chop dried beef into 1/2 to 3/4" pieces.
In a pan on medium heat add butter and flour. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Slowly add milk. Add Worcestershire sauce.
Turn heat up to medium high. Stir until sauce thickens.
Add chipped dried beef and stir to combine.
Add more milk if you want a thinner consistancy.
Taste for seasonings. Cook for one minute to heat beef through.
Serve over toast, biscuits, noodles or potatoes.
Enjoy.
