Good morning friends!
Are you in Indonesia, TKF??!!!
Ah no, yeah clickbait title, but actually not really, once you are done reading π
I do wish I was in Indonesia though, especially this month.
As I mentioned before, it's the holy month of Ramadan, where Moslem believers fast for 30 days from dawn til dusk.
In Indonesia, we have a tradition for our iftar - breaking our fast when dusk comes, with...wait for it...roll the drum...SWEETS ππππ
The most awaited moment during Ramadan is of course iftar time, well for me anywaysπ€£
I get to stuff my cheek fat til my teeth rotten, with sugary goodies. Hmm, hmm, hmmπ
While Moslems from the Middle East would have dates for their iftar, us Indonesians have tons of traditional sweets instead, which varies from island to island (Indonesia has thousands of islands by the way). We call these traditional sweets (and savory snacks) as jajan pasar, and many of them are often only available when Ramadan is here.
That is why I said I wish I was in Indonesia especially for this month π€£ You know me, I'm all about sugar ππ€£ππ€£
So long story short. I am planning to share you 30 different kinds of jajan pasar, which I will be making one each daily.
Today is Day 1, and this next sweet was what I had last night when I broke my fast. It is called Srikaya Roti Pisang, it's more or less similar to bread pudding, but steamed.
Originally this is from the island of Borneo, however, other islands also have similar dessert to thisπ
But of course, this is my vegan version by the way!
ingredients
- 1 1/2 bananas (if super large, 1 is enough)
- 3 slices of bread
- 50 g sugar
- a pinch of salf
- 1 1/2 tbsp AP flour
- 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 c of nut milk
how to
- Brush a small pyrex with a little cooking oil, set aside
- Preheat your steamers, and wrap the pan lid with clean kitchen towel
- Slice bread into cubes
- Slice banana into cubes
- Mix sliced banana, bread, sugar, flour, cornstarch and milk. Pour mixture into greased pyrex
- Steam for 20-30 minutes, covered
- Cool completely at room temperature before slicing
See you tomorrow with the next recipe π
