"Grounding"

When Timmy got home from school he left for his room without so much as a hello.

I knew what had happened. He had gotten yet another bad grade at school.

“Timmy! Get down here!” I yelled from under the stairs.

No answer.

“Timmy! I promise I won’t be mad, just come down and let’s talk about this.” I lowered my voice.

The door to his room slowly opened and he sluggishly appeared from behind the corner.

“Another F, huh?”

He nodded.

“Math?”

He nodded again.

“Come, let’s sit down, I’ve got something to tell you.”

He rolled his eyes and followed me to the couch expecting yet another punishment.

“Your mother and I talked and we believe that grounding you isn’t the solution. You’re grounded already since last time you got an F and look what that got you. So instead of grounding you, we decided to unground you. You’re free to leave the house as you please, do what you want, and most importantly, have fun and relax. We trust you are old enough to know your priorities in life.”

Timmy looked at me with surprise in his eyes.

“Really? Thanks dad!”

He hugged me, then stormed upstairs to get his basketball and ran outside.

A week later, he got a B in math.

Perhaps grounding our children isn’t the best idea after all.

Ding. Time is up.

What do you think? At a certain age, is grounding the child really the right way to go? I don't have children myself, but seen grounding backfire and just cause more stress instead of doing anything good. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

While you are waiting for content new,
