The plan has always been to breed chickens, quails and ducks and now we've made a small step in getting started with that. We got this little incubator because eggs need like....20 days on average of constant heat and humidity to hatch (quail eggs don't need the moisture but chicken eggs do). We looked into it and even if our quail go broody, which is rare, there's only about a 5 percent success rate for them, so we're stepping in to pick that up a bit.
This holds 7 chicken eggs or a lot more quail eggs. We have 11 quail eggs in it right now and 2 chicken eggs partially because that's what we could get together in just a day.
When setting it up John decided to check the internal temp with one of our tools to test the temperature readout on the incubator, finding it to be wrong. Turns out there was a single drop on the end of the internal thermometer that was really screwing with the readout. It's all good now and is currently sitting at about 40 degrees celcius.
Stay tuned guys because quail are quite possibly the cutest tiny baby birds ever.....and we will be sharing photos!
