Thoughts on Today’s Quote
How often do you think about something you want to accomplish, even talk about it but either are slow to act or don’t act at all. I have been guilty of that WAY too often in my life. Often enough that I reach a point where I consider it just too late to do what I want in life.
It is at that point I need to firmly remind myself that some huge corporations have been started by people older than me at the time. It is really never too late but man, why do we wait so long to get a move on?
I have always wanted to write and held back from doing so because I ‘had to make a living’ and writing didn’t show itself as creating me a living. Then I reached a point where I said “screw it”, and went for it. I am not making big money, and not yet doing as much writing as I think I want to, but I’m making some and that matters to me.
Had I never taken action, what I am making would not exist. I made the decision and acted without delay. I just need to continue to act more without delay.

Who is Simone de Beauvoir?
Simone de Beauvoir was born in Paris, France in 1908. She was a writer, intellectual, existential philosopher, political activist, feminist and social theorist.
Throughout her adult life she wrote novels, essays, biographies, autobiography and monographs on philosophy, politics and social issues.
She wrote “The Second Sex”, an analysis of women’s oppression in 1949 which became a foundation of contemporary feminism. She didn’t consider herself to actually be a feminist until the 1970s when she became active in the French women’s liberation movement.
She also didn’t consider herself to be a philosopher but had significant influence on both feminist existentialism and feminist theory.
Born into a devout Roman Catholic family, she experienced a crisis of faith at 14 from which she emerged an atheist. Her intellectual precociousness was encouraged by her father who was known to boast, “Simone thinks like a man.”
Starting in 1925 she studied mathematics, philosophy, literature and language. Her philosophy degree was earned in 1928 at the Sorbonne. At the time she was only the ninth woman to receive a degree from the Sorbonne.
Beauvoir was influence by several including Descartes, Kant, Kirkegaard, Marx, Nietzche and Sartre. Sartre and Beauvoir carried on a lifelong open relationship, something scandalous in the age they lived in. The two of them shared each others writings which has led to considerable debate over how much or if each of them influenced the other.
Beauvoir died of pneumonia in Paris in 1986 at the age of 78.
