Is it the Lyric or Video that makes a Song?
I remember the days of MTV when they actually played music videos. Do they anymore? A conversation piece back then was Michael Jackson’s Black or White video. I remember the video playing on TV and even my parents would comment on the video when they didn’t completely understand the meaning behind the song (English isn’t their first language).
So here is a question! Is it the lyric that makes a song or does the video accompanying the words have a factor on how we perceive a song?
As mentioned in my first song post, I’m rediscovering music again. I’ve come across some new musicians and rediscovering old ones. I have discovered some of the songs I’m listening to have some awesome videos that enhances the feel of the music.
Here are several examples. If you notice, many of the songs are by male musicians. I can’t help it if my preference tends to swing to the male voices out there.
So again, here is my music list as of today! Some new and some old ones thrown in. It may change tomorrow or the next day, but I will enjoy these songs and the accompanying videos today.

X Ambassadors – Unsteady
I met some beautiful spirits on here and only recently learned that many have dealt with some form of addiction in their lives. I can never say I understand the personal angst of addiction since I never experienced addiction myself. Well, if you exclude my Dunkin Donut cup of coffee that I have to have daily as an addiction, because I do go out on snowstorm days to grab one. My life is pretty much on the straight and narrow. That doesn’t mean I don’t see the destruction of addiction on the lives of family and friends. I’ve witnessed it.
This song makes me think of the pain and angst of addiction, any form of addiction.
Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
OneRepublic - Let's Hurt Tonight
OneRepublic. I love so many of their songs so it’s hard to not include at least one of their songs on this list. Here is another example of how both the lyric and video are used to magnify the meaning of the song.
So I'll hit the lights and you lock the doors
We ain't leaving this room 'til we bust the mold
Don't walk away, don't roll your eyes
They say love is pain, well darling, let's hurt tonight
Scotty McCreery - Five More Minutes
I enjoy listening to modern country songs and not so much the ones with the country twang. I like this song and video by Scotty McCreery. I don't see myself listening to it much, but might come around to it now and then.
What would we do if we have five more minutes of that special moment in time?
Time rolls by the clock don't stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain't nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I'd hit it
And give myself five more minutes
Bebe Rexha - Meant to Be (feat. Florida Georgia Line)
Here is some eye candy for all the guys out there. I only listen to this song now and then, but I know many guys out there can appreciate the sexiness in the video. Soo..sex sells then?
Who knows where this road is supposed to lead
We got nothing but time
As long as you're right here next to me, everything's gonna be alright
If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be
Baby, just let it be
Creed - One Last Breath
I’m taking you back once again with Creed. Another old favorite that once reigned on my CD tracks. The song is on the verge of morbid, sad, and can romantic be aptly used to describe it? Question on the romantic descriptor since I don’t really understand the meaning of this song. It can be interpreted in different ways, perhaps dependent on someone’s state of mind when listening to the song.
Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding on to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say, let me say
Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
Maybe six feet ain't so far down
Dan + Shay - Tequila
You would think that with a title named Tequila, the song will be pure country. I was surprised to see the song is not really about Tequila.
I can still shut down a party
I can hang with anybody
I can drink whiskey and red wine
Champagne all night
Little Scotch on the rocks and I'm fine, I'm fine
But when I taste tequila, baby I still see ya
Cutting up the floor in a sorority t-shirt
Thank you for stopping by! Have a BEE-ATIFIC day!
