The countdown to Chinese New Year continues and the shopping for the new year is something most Chinese people will do. In the past, most of the new year shopping in Singapore happens in Chinatown, In recent years, many other locations, especially different residential town centres organised their own new year market. Last weekend, I was greeted by the God of Wealth when I did some new year shopping. Come along and see where I went and what are in the stall.

农历想你快到了。庆祝新年当然免不了到年货市场买点年货。以前，在新加坡买年货都要去牛车水（唐人街）。近几年，屋区都举办自己的年货市场。上个周末，我就在屋区的年货市场见到财神爷。大家跟我看我到哪里和摊位卖什么。

Chinese like to buy new things for the new year and some of the new stuff we buy that can be found in the new year markets are these.

华人总喜欢在过年的时候买很多新东西。就好像在年货市场能找到的这些。

What I didn’t expect to see at the market were these comical characters.

万万想不到在市场会看到这动画主角。

I was looking for decorations items. So, I was spending time mostly in the the stall having them.

我实在找新年装饰所以时间都花在买装饰的摊位。

Firecrackers are banned in Singapore but doesn’t mean we cannot have decorative ones and some electronic ones make noise very much like the real firecrackers nowadays.
