The temple doesn't weep of sadness, rather of joy at the beauty which grows therein.
The weeping cherry blossoms are a lovely kind. The flowers are very small, almost plum blossom size, but they grow much closer together. As you might expect, there are a great many types of weeping cherry trees. I don't know this kind. The tree here blooms a few weeks before the someiyoshino, which are the most common cherry blossoms, and is often finished before they even begin.
This one was in a temple called Manshoji Temple (満性寺). The Matsudaira clan (forerunners of Ieyasu) and other samurai started following the temple and the sect of Buddhism taught there. The warrier monks helped Ieyasu in some of his battles.
Yeah yeah, another Ieyasu connection. Pretty much everything in this area of Japan claims as many connections with him as they can, so you get used to it.
