Grace Upon Grace

A Redoubled Christmas Gift [A Poem]

Sometimes the breadth and depth of friendships can take you by surprise. I wrote this a few years ago, and am publishing it today for the first time.

A Redoubled Christmas Gift

Child, once freely given,
Now The Man,
Though sovereign LORD,
yet friend with open hand.

Man, so bles-sed,
still his soul, forlorn,
kens not the stunning joy soon to be born.

Woman, Noble!, True!,
of tender heart!
Suspecting not,
she too shall play a part.

Says sovereign LORD:
"My gift; Here! Can't you see?
the pleasure I derive from pleasing thee?

In concert, as an echo,
Woman speaks;
of shiny love,
and kisses for his cheeks!

Man, in shock;
his joy transcends profound!
"Now?”,
“Could such unexpected grace abound?!"

Kind Maker chuckles,
looking on to see what wondrous things,
begun now, yet shall be!

Child, Man, Woman,
Cord of Three,
Beloved friends throughout eternity.
