Find my weekly "Top 15 Poetry Picks" for Jul 1 - Jul 8 HERE
*Disclaimer: The winners are based on the entries which I think are the best. I am not saying anyone is a bad poet, I will not say that. Instead, I seek to offer you my encouraging and supportive feedback as a fellow poet. My opinion takes into consideration many things that can add or subtract to the value of a poem, including:
- grammar / Does it make sense?
- flow / Are there any unclosed loopholes that leave me confused?
- rhythm
- rhyme
- imagery / Can I imagine the pictures the words paint?
- feeling / Does it cause a reaction?
- and emotional pull / Do I suddenly have an opinion?
Yes I am the only judge of the poetry dice contest right now, but I am wishing and hoping someone else will want to join in and take a turn, too. Two or three heads are better than one, so if you would like an opinion too, please let me know and we can chat up which poems we like best for the week and why. Without further ado, I give you the Winners of PDC3K!
3rd Place goes to...
@bleedpoet
"no title"
"Just a puppet to my monsters,
A footprint in your flowers,
An arrow in your tower,
A question in the moonlight,
The light guiding you away."
This poem struck home for me. So much emotion in such a short compilation of lines...

2nd Place goes to...
@dgiors
"13"
"Senses reeling from zombie, Ghost, spirit, mummy dust,
Inquest bores into my brain like wreaths of barb'd self doubt.
Like slings from parapets high they burn.
The light in the darkness is the same,
piercing straight by any name.
Devil, Goddess; Sun and Moon.
Dance in ether step you bold!
Nurture, decay: life and death; tumult and sweet release.
Point the way; vim vitae! Domina mors; point the way!"
I don't know if it's the creepy, scary image on one the dice or not, but I really enjoyed the dark feel of this poem. It's just that subtle hint of deep horror (bores, piercing, decay...) that puts this entry above your other one:
"Animus"
"The real me cast no shadow
Punctuating night air it bellows
"Release me from your citadel
Thief of light and dream
Die with a Wilhelm scream!
Your Chesire smile burn in Hell
Walk on, walk on
Let me grow once you've gone!"
It's all that's left, this empty shell"
1rst Place goes to...IT'S A TIE!
@unspeakableme
"Break Through the Night"
^
Looking out from his tower of Despair
He asked himself a question
Wondering if he should venture out there
Was it time, in his life, for a new direction?
When he finally set foot on the outside ground
exploring under the light of the waxing moon
Each footstep he took he soon found
His heart with hope abloom
An arrow of light pierces through
The lingering shadow of Despair
And with now sure footsteps he, at last, knew
As long as he believes in himself, he'll survive anywhere
^
Looking out from his heart with hope, he believes in himself.

This one had a really nice flow to it and represented the images best, I thought.
and @mamadini
"Shadow Monster"
"Little monster you look so big,
when in shadow
like a tower lit
by Luna.
I question the light,
the source.
Your footprint
an arrow,
pointing the way
through fields
of flowers.
Little light,
held by big hands,
a flashlight,
or flickering star.
Shadow monsters,
always fading away
when they become
too large."
Your entry was stirring and left a definite imprint on my mind @mamadini - very well written.

Thanks again for participating in the re-vamped Poetry Dice Challenge 3000! I really wanted everyone to have another opportunity to be inspired by a semi-structured poetry contest that is unique. Rory's Story Cubes have been an inspiration for me for many years, and Steemit has provided an opportunity for me to share that inspiration with you.
Whether you are taking a break from your own flow, or you desperately need pushed over the writer's block edge...this poetry challenge is for you. This first week I have seen more participation than in any previous Poetry Dice Challenge. It couldn't have been possible without all of us coming together and sharing our versions of how the dice speak to us. I hope the following weeks will continue to be an inspiration for you and the ones close to you. Cheers! And thanks for all you do!!!
Don't forget to use the "onehumanbasket" tag to ensure my 100% upvote and resteem.
- I also curate posts with the "poetrydice" and "poetry" tags. Any left-over voting power gets used for highly selective posts that I hope contribute to the "onehumanbasket" feel.
- Use "onehumanbasket" on photography, art and other types of posts besides poetry. Posts using both "poetry" and "onehumanbasket," however, will remain higher priority since I wish to curate the poetry community specifically.
- Entries to the Poetry Dice Challenge 3000, that use the tags, "poetrydice," "poetry," and "onehumanbasket" will have the highest priority vote.
You all so totally rock! :-)
