Public interest on Steemit decreased, in line with the decline of crypto currency value such as Bitcoin. This is a challenge for the Steemit promoters.
Global Decline
This article is based on Gooogle Trends data for the first Quarter of 2018, from 1 January 2018 to 31 March 2018. This data records public search through Gooogle Search. Google now is the largest search site, so it also shows interest or curiosity of the netizens towards a particular topic. For Steemit, this also means the size of potential new users which is one of the targets of the Steemit program.
Unfortunately, the data show people interests on Steemit decline globally as shown in the graph below.
Trend Steemit Quarter I 2018 Global
Interest on Steemit was high, almost 100%, at the beginning and end of January, then continues to fall until March.
Decline in Indonesia
Interest on Steemit in Indonesia is somewhat different. Google data below shows that Indonesian ever left behind global trends. The interest of new Indonesian netizens rose at the end of January but then declined and tended to stay at 25% and 75% level until February, but then tend to continue to fall in March, even dropping below 25% at the end of the month.

Comparison with Malaysia
Malaysian netizens also began to enter Steemit platform. You can see from their various posts in Steemit, including a number of meetups that they do.
Trend Steemit Quarter I 2018 Comparison of Indonesia and Malaysia
The graph above illustrates the ratio of interest to Steemit in Indonesia and Malaysia. We can see that Indonesian have more interest than Malaysia. This is good news and should be preserved.
But, Malaysian interest is very volatile, often touch 0% (meaning, very little data to be visualized). In this case, Indonesia is much better because it does not fluctuate it but still it appears that Indonesian also often fell to low level, about 25%.
Expanding Area
However, Indonesian interest on Steemit is more widespread as shown in the graph below.
Trend Steemit Quarter I 2018 Indonesia Regions
Until the end of last year, the "blue" region was only Aceh. Other areas are just small nodes barely visible. Now, that interest extends throughout Java and Bali and almost throughout Sumatra. This is a major advance: within three months, the spreading interest on Steemit has reached the three most populous islands in Indonesia.
It is should be noted by @steemit and the Steemit promoters. Most of the population and Internet activities exist in Java. It is fitting for this region to receive great attention.
The Beginners
Who is interested in finding Steemit in Indonesia? Google data shows that the top search keywords are how to become a Steemit member. See chart below:
Search Keywords Steemit Quarter I 2018 Indonesia
The top five articles they are looking for are "login steemit", "steemit list", "steemit sign up", "what is steemit" and "how to submit to steemit".
Although the Steemit site provides tutorials for new users, but not in Bahasa Indonesia. I think steemians with experience in Steemit need to provide these articles in Bahasa Indonesia to answer the curiosities of these newcomers.
Recommendation
Looking at the data above, there are some things that should be done by steemians and @steemit promoters who want to encourage more Indonesian netizens to enter this platform. This is particularly for people who have been actively promoting Steemit in Indonesia, such as @levycore, @aiqabrago, @mariska.lubis, @bahagia-arbi, @razack-pulo, and @dokter-purnama.
Steemit promotion has just reached Sumatra, Java, and Bali. It is important to think about how to promote it to other islands.
Of the three islands, only Aceh is very blue, other areas are still very light blue. Steemit enthusiasts in areas outside Aceh is still very low, below 20%. These other areas also need to be encouraged to move forward.
Interest on Steemit in Indonesia is still potential, especially for new netizens. But, they need to be given adequate guidances to get to know Steemit and how to join easily.
Good luck!
