Make Writing Fun With Story Cubes

Whether you have writers block or a group of fifth graders who grumble about writing, StoryCubes gives you that needed creative push!

Ways to Use Story Cubes

As Directed: the directions tell you to roll them out and create a story using the images that are face-up.
Pick two, and tell a contrasting story. Its easy to find similarities, harder to find contrasts.
Pick one cube and tell the story without using the word. For instance, you get the one with the key- you have to tell a story about a key without using the word "key".
Roll a cube and remember the picture. Then roll all the cubes and use them to tell the story from the point of view of the image on the first cube. Say the first cube was the lighthouse. You must tell the story from the lighthouses point of view.
Use them as a memory building exercise. Roll the cubes and take a photo. Allow your students to look at them for one minute. Using your photo to verify, see who can remember the most.
