Distant Owl Calling - Day 136 - Daily Haiku

Distant owl calling
rolling mists on the meadows
nights here are magic

Cori MacNaughton

I wrote this right after I got home last night, around 3 AM, after driving through several patches of ground fog on the highways, especially when crossing the rivers, and then on our street.

Even in the really dry weather we've had for the past few days, the nights are cool and humid, and the mists hug the grassy areas like a lover. It is truly beautiful.

Our river is back to its usual cool green, the wet weather springs have slowed to a trickle, and we have a few more days of dry before the rains come again. Perhaps tomorrow I can finish my mowing.

Tonight Musica didn't come home the first few times I called, so I kept going out again and again, and just marveling at the sky and the sounds from our woods.

tonight is absolutely clear and the stars are amazingly beautiful. I didn't hear the owls tonight, though I did hear a couple of distant coyotes, which set the neighborhood dogs barking.

The last time I went out I finally heard her bell, as she ambled toward the house, and then leapt up the back steps to greet me.

We have a brick pad at the base of the steps, with a few weeds growing up through the holes in the bricks, and she doesn't trust it, evidently thinking that a snake (or something) is going to get her if she just walks by.

She always investigates it thoroughly, then races like the wind up the steps, which is goofy, but it's just a part of her.

Melaleuca, a company that has been making natural, eco-friendly products since the 1980s, that not only work as well as chemically laden versions from the supermarket, but are safer, and typically save money overall in addition.

I was introduced to them by a co-worker in 1990, lost track of them, and was thrilled to find them again about a year and a half ago. I strongly recommend their products.

All words and images are my own. The first image was taken this past January, with my Note 8 smartphone, ans was the closest thing I could find to the misty night that greeted me last night when I arrived home.

The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table. You can see how much that deterred them both.
