🚶📷Go with me to pre-New Year mall hopping in Johor Bahru - 跟我去新山看年货逛商场🏮(by @ace108)

A week before the Lunar New Year and all the spring cleaning was done. There are still shopping to be done and still had a few days. So, my wife and I decided to go on a day drip to Johore Bahru (Malaysia) - for some shopping and food.
This post is the part one.

This time, we took a train to Woodlands bus interchange to take bus service numbered 950 hoping to shortened the journey. Still there was a jam heading into the immigration and we were stuck for at least half an hour. Here was the stop where the bus began.

The usual getting off the bus, walk to the Singapore immigration, clearing customs was quite fast. Guess not unexpected on a late morning on a weekday. After that, back on bus to cross the causeway to get to the Malaysia immigration. Get off the bus another time, cleared custom also quite quickly. Along the way to the bus station, saw few banners with Chinese New Year decorations for the year of the rooster.

First destination - KSL City. They have a new year market in the mall but seems it’s still early as some are not open yet.

Looking up, what did I see? Yes, nice lanterns but look at the banner advertising a restaurant. Let’s go look for some food.

Along the way up, saw this shop that’s mainly filled with stuffed toys.

Into the duck restaurant. They have this huge model of a roast duck.

Many tables are marble top tables.

The same light from above photo which is quite nice and I had reduce the exposure to show it here.

Slide2580bb9.jpg

Quite a bit of space inside.

The light above us is quite unique too.

Place our orders. Now, we wait.

Meanwhile, get your utensils and sauces at the side of the table.

Nothing fancy in the plate of rice though it’s cooked in oil and has some flavour....

But look at the plate in which the roast duck, char siew and soya sauce chicken came in.

After lunch, I saw the roast duck model and the real roast ducks on the way out.

Here is how much the meal cost? FYI, 1 Singapore dollar is about 3 Malaysian ringgit at this time.

Slide490ff63.jpg

Overall, it was a great meal for the price paid. Delicious and not too expensive for the clean environment.

Away from the restaurant, I saw the lanterns from up here and a bird’s eye view of the new year market below.

Went down the new year market and have a look but bought nothing before going out to find there are other restaurants there.

Slide55d7eb1.jpg

A shop with a name “l love yoo!” which is a pun of the word 油(which shows like “you” and mean oil). Among the things they serve are 油条 (dough fritters).

Slide5746a93.jpg

Just across the roads from the mall, there other shops which looks interesting to explore in future.

Decide to hop on the bus back to JB Sentral where we started.

On the bus, I see a coffee shop.
