Travel Diaries - Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque - Oman's Beauty

If you ever visit Oman, Muscat, there is one place which should not be missed to visit. There are several Grand Mosque in the world but the beauty of this Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is mesmerizing, The Mosque is named after His Majesty Sultan of Muscat who himself is a very dignified personality. The Mosque is known for its grand stature an magnificent architecture. Its Royal, Grand and truly Majestic and worth a one time watch in lifetime. It took around 6 years to build this Mosque and was completed in 2001, with an area of approximately 400,000 square meters.

Now living here in Muscat I have had the privilege to visit it again and again. Whenever I have a visitor, I make it a point to get them to this Mosque and never miss an opportunity. There is a strict dress code in here. women should be completely covered including head. Men should be appropriately dressed, no shorts allowed.

I will take you through this tour of the mosque today, for you to see and believe that this truly is one wonder of the world.

The White serene outside of the Mosque. The mosque is built up of marble which has been majorly exported from India, Italy and other parts of the world.

This Chandelier is the master piece and the main part of this mosque, it has been made out of around 6,00,000 Swarowski Crystals, and is 14 metres high with a weight of 8.5 tons. It almost has a height of a 5 floors building. has a 24 carat gold plating and was made in Italy.
This Chandelier is in the Men's prayer hall.

The prayer hall has other similar smaller chandeliers too. When they are all lit up, they look magnificent and you will not be able to take your eyes off.

After the Chandelier the next thing that you will adore is the Carpet in the Men's prayer hall. Its a Persian carpet made in Iran, It took an overall 4 years to weave the carpet and a labor of 600 women. Its a one piece second largest carpet of the world.

This is the direction where people would face for prayers, its the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. This particular architecture is made in a way that when people would pray the sound will reflect back and there is echo of the prayer in the prayer room.

The Corridors of the Men's prayer hall, you should not miss the wooden carved ceiling.

The Female Prayer hall, again another beauty

The Windows in the corridors of the mosque. They have mosaic designs which are from countries all over in Europe and Asia.

The Mosque view at night.
