Walking Street and Pattaya in general gave me my first real bout of culture shock since arriving to South East Asia about three months ago. My first few moments in Pattaya, had my gut telling me "WRONG MOVE"! I only stayed one night, back tracked to Bangkok, and took the overnight train to one of my favorite cities in the country, Chaing Mai in northern Thailand.
I knew Pattaya had a reputation for being ridden with prostitutes, the old johns that frequent them, and a large gay and lady boy scene. Part of me kind of wanted to see it just for the culture shock value. I got a bit more than I bargained for or imagined. I mean everyone in this city, had a creepy look on their face like they just did something horrible their ashamed of.
I saw so many disturbing things in less than 24 hours I packed my bags and got the heck out of there the following morning. Just an afternoon walk around my less seedy neighborhood of Jumtien beach, I had five old gay Russian Johns hitting on me, about five gay Thai prostitutes hitting on me, maybe ten female prostitutes hitting on me, and dozens of workers sitting in front of massage parlors shouting "ooooohh, come come, massaaaaaage!"
Here is a five minute photo shoot from the main strip of "Walking Street" on Pattaya Beach that night.
