Fourth blog in Discover Serbia series. This week we are visiting Uvac.
This was my first trip with DSLR (Canon 600d). I had pretty decent knowledge in photography department my video skills were lacking, so not that much great video shots :)
Uvac is a river in Serbia that flows between the mountains Zlatibor and Zlatar i southwestern part of Serbia. The canyon of the river Uvac is considered one of the most beautiful places in Serbia. River flows through some unreal meanders that nature carved in a miraculous way.
There are 3 big artificial lakes created for hydroelectric power stations. Lake Radoinja, Lake Sjenica and Zlatar Lake.
Zlatar Lake originated in the sixties of the last century. The dam built was (not sure is it still) the largest earth dam in Europe. Water level reaches up to 45 meters.
Zlatar Lake is the largest natural habitat of Griffon Vulture (Beloglavi sup) in the entire Balkans. 20-25 years ago it was close to extinction. By establishing a fund for protection and creating feeders it was saved from extinction and there are around 300 of them.
- May was pretty big holiday in socialist Yugoslavia and it still is in Serbia. 1. and 2. May are non-working days so we decided to go on 3 days camping. It was our first bigger camping trip. Weather in May can be tricky and it was :)
First day it was sunny and the temperature was around 20ºC. Great day for setting up the camp.
The view from the camp was beautiful.
At night temperature dropped to 5ºC and it was an interesting experience for first time camping trip for all of us :)
Next day we we planned a boat trip and hike to one of viewpoints. Also my friend had a plan to propose his girlfriend (now wife (SPOILER she said YES) ) on a viewpoint. The weather was not promising so it become a race against the rain :)
Till the end of that day it was raining and continued the next day until the time to pack. Weather gods looked upon as and the rain stopped so we could pack :)
I will definitely visit Uvac again as we missed a lot because of bad weather, but there is something incredible, peaceful and relaxing in laying in the tent while raindrops are falling on it. It creates a weird yet beautiful music of nature.
