Dear Steemit friends and followers,
Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I prepared something special for you as I will take you to a place that usually attracts fans of the spooky but also romantics and artists - a cemetery. But we are not talking about an ordinary cemetery here - I will show you one of the largest and most famous cemeteries in the Czech Republic, the legendary Olsany Cemetery.

Located in the Prague district of Zizkov, the Olsany Cemetery occupies more than 50 ha, making it the biggest cemetery in the Czech capital. The cemetery was created in 1680 and its original purpose was to serve as the resting place for plague victims. However, the cemetery has been extended many times throughout the centuries and it is now estimated that up to 2 million people have been buried there.

The Olsany Cemetery is known for a number of beautifully decorated graves and unique art-nouveau monuments. Except for hundreds of thousands of common people buried there, the cemetery is also the resting place of many prominent Czech figures such as the writers Karel Havlicek Borovsky, Karel Jaromir Erben or Viktor Dyk; popular actors including Jan Werich and Rudolf Hrusinky or politicians like Karel Kramar and Klement Gottwald.
