Airesis Translation | Traditional Chinese Version Part 4, 5 6

Contribution to the Open Source Project Airesis - Continuing on to Part 4, Part 5 and Part 6

Tonight I continued to translate this mega project of Airesis project that totals to 19,297 words. I think next time I will do shorter projects but since I had already started this project, I will move on to finish this translation for the project manager as soon as possible and not let it hang there unfinished.

Record of Previous Translations done on this Airesis Project

  1. I have already done Airesis Translation Part 1 & 2 a few days ago.

  2. Yesterday, I did Airesis Translation Part 3.

Today, I completed Airesis Part 4, 5, and 6.

So today, I translated three parts of this translation and brought these sections to 100% done.

Here is the screen shot to show that they are all done with the blue line reaching to the end.

I did these 3 parts:

1. Date and Time

2. Device

3. Forum

Activities Proof from the Airesis Page that I did the translation

We are asked to proof that we are the ones who did the translation. So the following screen shot will s how that my profile pictures matches my profile in Utopian also.

Part456ActivityLine.jpg

For the 3 parts, I did the translation in 3 slots.

  • one with 73 translations
  • one with 57 translations
  • one I made 3 comments about the translation because the board would not let me save the work, partly because of the word "provider" where the string bracketed it and I had to put the word outside just to make the translation complete. Actually in these cases, depending on the project owner, some time the project manager does not want us to translate these words. They want to keep them as English. But to be on the 'safe' side, I added the translation beside it to make sure that I am being thorough in this translation.

Here are the strings of words in Traditional Chinese I translated.

We are asked to provide the entire work that we translated. Here they are:

A section of this translation has to do with day and time, so you will see that there are some strings that keep repeating the dates and time. The repetitive translation is not in error, but in the actual project itself.

Tools I used to Translate

We are asked to include every possible detail to check the translations and the tools we have used to translate.

I mainly use my head to translate. I've worked as a "Simultaneous Translator" in my church for over 20+ years. I had to either translate simultaneously from English to Chinese or from Chinese to English. This is a skill that I have acquired all these years because we need to think very quickly to translate simultaneously from the headset to the microphone immediately.

When it comes to translation, I use my head and not the dictionary. Unless it is very technical word that I don't know, then I look it up in my Big Dictionary. Or I might try to find the word on the net.

So I use this same technique of *simultaneous translation skill *to translate these strings of words from Part 4 to 6 in Airesis.

I look at the English words and would know what the chinese word is in my head. I can't explain it. You know it in a flash. Your brain tells you what it is right away.

I then choose from the bottom box of the samples they provide and see if I can find the word that is in my head. Most of the time, I am able to find the right words in the samples that matches what my head tells me. Sometimes there are 7 or 8 to choose. I look through all of them and choose the one that I know is correct, ie. the word that my head tells me. Sometimes the samples list has the same words, so I choose the first one in that case. Sometimes there is only one to choose. I look to see if it is correct. If it is not correct, I type in my own. Sometimes there is none to choose, so I type in my own translation.

When there is word that needs changing, I change it on the board. I don't use a dictionary because I know what the words are. It is quicker that way.

Most of these translations are technical words, therefore most of the time I can choose from the board without needing to change a lot of things from the samples. So in that sense, when strings of words are just short phrases, I can translate about 5 to 6 strings in one minute depending on how long the phrases are. If it is a sentence, I read it out and it takes about 1 sentence / phrase a minute.

But if I were to translate a narrative, like a story book, then I need to do the translation from scratch and not use any hints from the board because it will be faster to translate from scratch than to edit what is provided. It takes too long to proof read someone else's suggestion, so I prefer typing in my own translation when it is paragraph narratives.

So for this section of translation Part 4 to 6, it has to do with date and time, device and forum, therefore, it is all technical languages.

Inside the Translation Working Station

Here are some screen shots to show inside the translation working station.

The strings of words are on the left where with all the orange bullets.

We are to bring all the pages to green bullets with our translations.

The following are some proofs where we reach to the end of the pages.

Conclusion

I am happy that this translation project is moving forward, not only in Chinese but also in other languages like Spanish because of this new opportunity that Utopian gives us.

The next part - Part 7 has 24 pages. I will translate this tomorrow. It is too long to include into this one.
