My experiment continues, but is getting close to the end.
I passed 10,000 words for the entire story with this post which would make for a decent size chapter book for elementary students.
I am working on a new book, while also writing this story. This is going to be a chapter book for elementary students, think Goosebumps.I am writing this story without an outline and putting up the story as I finish each part. I am enjoying getting to know these characters and setting. I am also doing this to prove to myself that a story can be written quickly and without an outline.

In part 19 Mr. Williams, Alec, and Irving bring the equipment home to begin listening to the audio they recorded.
Part 20 That's What I Intend to Find Out
Mr. Williams came back with thee popcorn. The smell of butter permeated throughout the room.
“Okay, instead of listening to the whole thing right now. Let’s listen to certain parts,” he pointed to the screen where the sound waves were taller, indicating louder sound at that point. “And maybe we can find what happened when the microphone was moved. But first let’s see what we got when we set the microphone up.”
He scrolled the mouse to the beginning of the timeline. The sound of Mr. Williams voice came through the speakers, “Testing, testing, 1,2,3 testing. Well, I hope this thing works.”
Alec and Irving chuckled.
Mr. Williams smiled, “I guess it worked.” The sound of them walking and talking up the stairs came over the speakers. Mr. Williams leaned over and moved the mouse to the first large sound wave. He paused it. “I am guessing that this is the first loud bang we heard. Let’s see what we get.”
He clicked the play button. “BAM!” came the sound. It echoed throughout the room.
There was a sound that came after the bang. Irving paused it. “There was something there.” "That sounds like feet shuffling on the concrete," replied Alec. “Play it again.”
The bang went through the speakers, the three leaned forward and listened. “There is definitely a shuffling sound. It does sound like feet,” Irving said.
Mr. Williams played it one more time. “I’m with you it sounds like feet were shuffling across the floor. Let’s check out this blip.”
Mr. Williams voice came through the speakers, “Mr. Jackson, is that you.” The sound of Mr. Williams with Irving and Alec walking behind him.
The sound of a cough came over the speakers.
Irving immediately paused the track. “Was that a cough?” Irving asked.
“If it was, why didn’t we hear it when it happened?” Alec asked.
They listened to it one more time.
“That is clearly a cough after you ask your question grandpa,” said Irving.
Mr. Williams leaned back in his chair, “It does sound like it.”
“Mr. Williams, have you ever heard of a ghost coughing?” Alec asked.
Mr. Williams put his hands together and let his fingertips tap each other. “It sounds like someone is messing with us.”
“Who could be messing with you?” asked Irving.
“That’s what I intend to find out.” Mr. Williams replied.
