Creation of a Home: Final Touches for Functionality

Hello and welcome to my blog- How to Play the Sims. If you are new, you can visit my blog and catch up by reading my previous posts. Follow me @simgirl to receive my newest posts in your Steemit feed.

When you build a home in the Sims 4 game, your goal is to build a house that is both beautiful, and functional. Sims will require the simple pleasures in life, such as electricity and plumbing. They will also need appliances, such as a stove and refrigerator. Since they will be spending time at their home eating, sleeping, and having fun, they will also need a bed, a place to sit, and some form of entertainment.

The Sims 4 offers a Cool Kitchen stuff pack to help you decorate your new kitchen, or give an old kitchen a new look. Check it out:

In my last post, we left this house unfurnished. Now I will explain how to place the appliances, and furnishings.

Object

When you select the Walls Cutaway View option in the top right-hand corner of the screen, it’s easier to see where you are placing your appliances, and utilities. To open the household items, you will need to go down to where the house tab is located, and select the Objects by Room tab under the house, which is represented with a chair inside a room. This will allow you to search for items by area.

Cabinet

Once you open the Objects by Room tab, you will be able to click through the different furnishings. The more expansions, and stuff packs you have downloaded to your Sims 4 game, the more options you will have to choose from each category. Select the counters for the kitchen, and add any appliances your Sim will need to make a meal. If you do not have a separate dining room, be sure to add a small table and chairs for them to sit and eat every day. Don’t forget a smoke alarm for safety.

Nifty tip- the icon by the counter cabinet opens another menu for different sizes.

Decorated

Repeat the same process with the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. Continue to check the value of the lot. If you find that you have gone over the $20,000 mark, go back and buy lesser value items, such as the least expensive couch, or use only a small bookcase for fun, to keep costs down. In the end I had to go back into build mode, and move the walls making the house smaller to make the house affordable for a beginner Sim, and to pay for the lights.

Total

When you save and exit the game, you will see the price needed to buy the house and land. If it is higher than $20,000, you can come back into build mode and change anything to reduce the price. Once your Sim buys the house, any changes or repairs will come directly out of the Sim’s household funds.

Price

I hope you learned a little something about adding the final touches to your Sim's home. As well as how easy it is to go over a beginner Sim's $20,000 budget, and how to remedy the problem. It is very easy to build a house that is too big, or too small. The Sims 4 build mode makes it easy to delete, resize, or replace materials. Once your Sim begins to make some money by leveling up the career track, they can improve, and upgrade their homes.

Until next time...
