Today's sketch inspired by my mother hen.

This sketch is of my favourite of the three chicks that Leto, my mother hen, has hatched out.

I have tried eggs under her once before and she gave up on them. This time, when she went broody, I separated her into another smaller little house I have. She has patiently sat and sat.

She had such a large amount of eggs under her as I couldn't remember which she had originally started as the other hens kept giving her more. And you can see a quail egg in there too, but alas none of those hatched. I think they got too jostled before I move her, but you can see the empty shell of one and another on its way here.

She has hatched three total and I think that is going to be all that hatch. She keeps sitting on the eggs with the chicks each night, but it's been about 5 days now, so will probably take the eggs from her soon.

I am really excited as the eggs which did hatch were all white eggs, which meant they were the hybrid I wanted to try. It is my white polish hen and of course our pure bred self blue cochin bantam roo.

The colours have come out two closer to the blue of the hen, with clean legged feet like the Polish and one, my favourite, a black and white with feathered leggs and I am hoping the stocky build of the cochin and hopefully the Polish hat.

Here is a video of mama feeding her darlings.

Aren't they adorable?

Well, I have a busy day ahead of me, I've got to go and attend to my rental cottage today and also try to get some time up in the Summer studio, but the hobble up the stairs is not fun, but getting easier, as my toe is on the mend!
