This is the FINAL showcase of entries to my Surreal Art Contest. Later today I'll be announcing the winners.
I must have miscounted when I said there were 49 eligible submissions. There were actually 50! Amazing. Because of that, I'll be showing 8 pieces today instead of my usual 7.
And here they are!
The first piece of the day is by @across-the-moon. A man and his dog are together at the edge of the world. Clouds bloom from the grass like trees and wrap themselves around the sun while a face in the sky watches over the two characters. Really beautiful line work in this fascinating ink piece.
Give the entry post a look and an upvote if you feel so inclined.
@footsteem's painting, As If, is more abstract, but the placement of a human face among the shapes nudges it into the realm of the surreal. An eye stares at the viewer from among the colourful geometric forms.

This entry by @rimicane is a Photoshop creation called When Gods Awaken. It was made by combining multiple layers of sky, ground, and the head of a bull with the body of a man. The creature, half human half animal, enters from another world, through a "portal" the artist says. "What is it going to do here? Where is it going to go? Has it got any powers? Is it a God?"
These are the questions the piece invites. If you have an answer, or just want to give it an upvote please head over to the original post.
Next up is a fun Steem-themed painting by @redwellies called Steemit Through the Surreal Lens. Under the light of Steem, a minnow surfs on top of a Bitcoin on top of a lobster on top of a whale. The whale carries the whole thing. That's a statement worth considerin!

Here we have another piece that's mostly abstract but contains some familiar forms. Desvanecimiento by @majo1989 depicts a twisting and flowing ribbon-like form. If you look closely near its top, you can see some human features. I can make out a breast as well as a distorted face. Maybe there are even more details that I'm missing.
Take a look at the artist's post here and see if you can spot anything else. Be sure to give it an upvote too!
@mfestra draws a familiar image. It's a depiction of Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter roaming through the mushroom trees of the surreal world of Alice in Wonderland.

In @zheimberg's oil pastel drawing, day and night are divided by a pinwheel sun held in a giant hand. Beneath the sunlight and moonlight, gulls gather on a shelf of ice floating on the sea. The artist expressed their lack of confidence with pastels, but I think this was drawn beautifully. Such vibrant colours!
Make sure you give the entry post an upvote.
This is the end. The final entry of the Surreal Art Contest! This pencil drawing by @bacinilat depicts a fragment of a human face below a book. A tree grows through the book and lays its roots in the mind of the person below. The artist says, "A book can take root in our minds like a tree." How true.

I've now covered every single entry to the contest. So much amazing art work came in, choosing the winners is not an easy task.
I'll announce the winners later today and send out the prizes.
