Legitimizing Fake News and Calling Out the Crap in Mainstream Media

Facebook and Google came out recently saying they would do more to combat the fake news.

What’s Steemit role in the world. How deep will they dig to find the true news versus the fake news?

So I was wondering if that means they will censor CNN and FOX and Huffington post among countless other news entities that shout out across the world an ideology many steem users disagree with.

I understand they are only trying to prevent advertisements from being seen with fake news because somehow we, as plebs, associate advertising with legitimizing the article it’s seen with. So the theory is if they avoid advertising with fake news people will trust the product more.
On this point they are probably correct. The method will, in the least, discredit news and posts by not acknowledging it’s existence.

Do you see what I see?

Do these news agencies understand why so many people fell for and helped spread the false news over believing the mainstream agenda? I suppose they continue to blame it on algorithms that detect what’s trending or others will accuse the few humans involved of tampering with peoples news feed.

We know better here on Steemit. We know the real reason is that the mainstream news has proven time and time again to report very one sided stories. Facts and witness statements carefully vetted leaving people’s minds to fill in the blanks with a predetermined answer.

It’s no wonder people went looking elsewhere and without any real motivation to properly vet and check what was just read, the fairy tale news sounds believable because it says the opposite of what the mainstream is saying and the mainstream can’t be trusted.

Yes, believing something that’s not in the mainstream news is now more believable regardless of what it's saying simply because it’s not mainstream news.

We can put the blame on facebook and google for putting it in people’s news feeds due to popularity on likes and trending status. Really though it’s the mainstreams fault for degrading themselves so low and failing to do what they promised to do; report all the facts.

The real news and real facts are either rejected or more commonly these days simply ignored. Not talking about it is more powerful than trying to call it a conspiracy or hoax.

I hear people on all parts of the web say things like “people are sheep they believe anything they hear”.

This is not all that true, maybe for a select few but for the masses it’s not. The masses don’t simply believe what they are told. It’s that they already have chosen what to believe based on what they have been subjected to throughout their life, news, friends, coffee talk and eavesdropping. We gather information in more ways than simply facebook and twitter feeds. Our interactions with the world guide our beliefs.

The problem is “Over Information.” We are subjected to too much information. It’s coming in from all directions in every opinion possible. It can’t be avoided if you live in a modern society. It's incredibly time consuming to find the fact ourselves for everything we care about, we are obligated to trust something, right.

Unless you want to conduct all your own experiments and interview people all over the world you kind of have to draw a line and believe or ignore.

Is it even possible to control real and fake news? Who decides what’s real and what’s not?

How will google and facebook's algorithm detect Steemit posts that our friends post on facebook and twitter? So much Steemit news is counter mainstream agenda.

How do we legitimize, at least the well vetted and coherent, posts we write so they don’t kept swept away in the chaos about to happen as facebook and google decide what's legit or not. I know we don't advertise but that could also effect rankings in google searches if they decide steemit, or at least some posts, arn't legit.
