Disclaimer: I'm a paid marketing consultant for Cryptyk and have written this article in exchange for monetary compensation. That said, I only associate my name with projects that I believe in, and Cryptyk is no exception.
As a cryptocurrency connosieur, I'm always on the lookout for promising new coins. I stumbled across Cryptyk. According to their website, here's what they do:
Cryptyk is a unique decentralized cyber-security and cloud storage platform that protects against all 5 main threats to cloud security (external, internal, viral, operational and surveillance threats). It utilizes hybrid blockchain technology and a self-propagating ecosystem that is powered by Cryptyk Tokens (CTK).
I'll come right out and say it: I like Cryptyk. Here's why:
1. They're partnered with IBM
Okay, so "partnered" isn't exactly the best term here. It's not like the CEO of IBM and the CEO of Cryptyk get together and brainstorm on new ways to build their company.
IBM has a program called IBM Partners, where they give extra help to technology startups who use IBM's technology. Microsoft, Amazon and Google also have similar programs. The advantage of IBM is that they've been around forever and have the most extensive selection of hardware out of pretty much anyone.
Another reason I'm a fan of this partnership is that IBM also has a similar arrangement with Stellar Lumens. Stellar is a low-fee coin used to facilitate cross-border payments quickly. Compared to many of the other ICOs/blockchain startups I've seen, Stellar has a wealth of information on their company and plans for the future.
For example, just take a look at the sidebar in their subreddit. That alone would take days to read.
Obviously, just writing a lot on your subreddit sidebar doesn't mean you have a good project, but when take into consideration with the rest of Stellar's qualities (that Cryptyk shares, by the way) it begins to seem very promising.
2. They have a non-profit foundation specially for fostering blockchain startups that build on Cryptyk's tech
Once again, Stellar has the same thing: The Stellar Foundation.
While Cryptyk's counterpart website doesn't seem to be live just yet, they've outlined in their Information Memorandum that the Cryptyk Foundation will play a large role in nurturing the Cryptyk community.
From the Cryptyk website:
The primary function of the Cryptyk Foundation is to grow the Cryptyk community globally and hold regular membership events to promote the CRYPTYK open source platform to both customers and developers. The Cryptyk Foundation will be managed at arm’s length to Cryptyk Inc, However, the success of both entities is inherently aligned to ensure full cooperation for mutually beneficial outcomes.
Not only that, but Cryptyk is setting aside a third of their tokens - 250,000,000 - for this purpose. That's a lot of money.
LISK CEO Max Kordek recently did this as well, pledging $50M of his own money to fund developers who build sidechains on his project. The difference here is that this guy is not creating a non-profit - it's his own investment fund.
Cryptyk is taking a different approach, but the sentiment is the same: they are reserving a massive amount of their own capital to spend on growing the company. Not on marketing, either, but on substantially increasing the use cases of the technology.
3. Their documentation is extremely transparent
Whitepaper? Check.
Information Memorandum? Check.
4000+ FAQ page? Check.
KYC verification required to participate in ICO? Check.
You know what this tells me? That Cryptyk wants to do things right.
With so many ICOs out there that try to eek by on only the bare minimum, it's refreshing to see a company that goes out of its way to produce so much information. Some ICOs don't even have a team listed on their website.
There's a lot of trash ICOs out there. But there's also a few good ones. With IBM's help, their plan to foster growth through a funded open-source community, and their ultra-transparency with regards to their business practices, I'm gonna have to say that Cryptyk looks like the latter.
Want to participate in Cryptyk's Pre-ICO? Great. Just make sure you bring $25,000 with you.
