Aquaponics, A New Commercial System!!

Hey everyone. I have had a passion for aquaponics for many years. I have built my own commercial system in the past as well as many small units. It really is the way to go in terms of been able to grow protein and vegetables in a closed looped efficient and truly brilliant system the natural way.

Here is my last aquaponics post a system I visited about a month ago I took pics as well as a @dtube video...@craigcryptoking/1o97dpih

I recently visited folks who have built a pretty cool system on their plot and here are the pics

Here we have one of the big dams which houses the tilapia as well as feeds the system!

What many folks do is use municipal water in aquaponics systems problem these days is the water is highly chlorinated which is not good for the fish (probably end up killing them) or the plants. So what we have here is a pre-drum to top the dams up with. The water sits in this 10 000 litre drum for a few days to de-chlorinate.

Now for the plants inside the system, here we have a polystyrene grow bed with bok choi in a DWC (deep water culture system) more on that here on my other posts..

Here we have seedling vegetables suspended above the system maturing and ready to be put in the system once a little bigger. This is not a traditional practice, I used to plant seedlings straight in the system, that however is the beauty of aquaponics, there are no hard and fast rules, experimentation is the name of the game!

Can you spot the tilapia?

More seedling trays.

This is called a biological filter many people prefer to use these in the system larger systems especially to remove excess waste, amonia etc. Those white pipes on the side are vertical towers another relatively new way to optimally grow plants in small areas, just brilliant, this is certainly one of my preferred techniques!

A view of the back of the tunnels with the windows open to release all hot excess air. These units get extremely hot in summer which is why this is a MUST!
