Think of it as a virtual handshake. You want to write a compelling piece to capture the attention of community members who share something in common with you in order to meet your first followers.
I've read good ones and I've choked through bad ones. And I've been privy to a few utterly terrible ones!
I know you want to dive headfirst into the Steemit pool, so I'll skip the fluff ;) Here are tips to make your first post memorable, readable, and attention grabbing :)
Photo
Choose a clear photo of yourself as the first picture in your post. The first image is featured, so make it a good one! That is what is going to grab the attention of the community! Try to aim for a fun or action photo, but if you don't have one a nice headshot is great.
If you are camera shy, give it a try anyways. Research shows people are more likely to follow a social media account with a human photo. It is your "Introduce Myself" post after all ;)
Title
Just as important as your photo is the title you use. A good headline gets people to click and read the full article. Play around with it! Write down a dozen and try them out, rewording and rearranging until it sounds exciting.
Spelling and Grammar
This should go without saying, however I have run across some posts where it looks like the author just slapped it together and hit publish fast so they could run out and do something more important. It's a turn off!
If there is a red squiggle line beneath your word, please double check it- dictionary.com is your friend :)
It's all about YOU!
How often do you get to hear that?!
We want to know what you like, what you're into, what makes you, well, you. Tell me what makes you unique. And be yourself. I realize you are trying to impress the masses, but you will not impress everyone. That's just not how life works. So you be you, and let it shine through so we can get to know the really real you :)
Quantity, Too!
Quality is super important, but for your Introduce Yourself post you want to write several paragraphs. People who post "Hi, my name is Mike and I'm new to Steemit. I like bikes and art, looking forward to posting!" will not get much attention.
Smile!
Seriously, smile while you're creating your post! It'll shine thru the computer screen :)
And by the way, welcome to the Steemit community! I am happy you are here, and look forward to this exciting journey with you :)
